I can practically hear the cries of "selected, not elected!", "dictator!" "Trump Regime!" and assorted bitching about the SCOTUS having been compromised by the Russians already. The democrat party already has a backup plan in place for Trump's potential second term.

I don't think so. I think safe harbor means if a state resolves all legal cases and submits its electors those electors cannot be challenged after safe harbor day. However, that doesn't mean the SCOTUS can't weigh in and take certiorari of the state-level court decisions.

In Bush v. Gore the SCOTUS weighed in after safe harbor day. Now, what will happen? I've got no idea, but it will be interesting to see.
