Smiller is an idiot. Does anyone think its a good idea to store over a million dollars in merchandise in a private residence just because the post office will send a dodge caravan to pick up packages?

The business pays for the Sprinter. The business pays for the gas and insurance. It's a free vehicle. One that can haul any business related goods or be used for any business purposes.

For insurance reasons you shouldn't keep a bunch of high value goods in your home. Without getting too autistic here is a link explaining a little about the issue.

Mike is assuming that Ethan is storing his stuff at his home. This is probably because Ethan posted fulfillment content that looked like he was working from home. If Ethan is renting warehouse space instead I would agree that that is better from a liability standpoint. I don't know if he's doing that though.

No. It's a discount. EVS won't have to pay taxes on the money he spends to buy the van. He still has to buy it though and at tax time he'll be able to deduct the tax he would have paid if he didn't purchase the vehicle. I don't know NJ tax code but that's likely in the realm of 20-30% with federal taxes included. He gets a depreciating asset out of the deal and does not have to pay tax on it unless he sells it at which time he would pay tax on whatever he receives for it.

That depends on the cost of rental in San Diego. Everything is unbelievably expensive in metropolitan California and Mike would do well to pull a Rogan and move to Texas or perhaps Nevada if he wants to avoid state income tax and rent space for his business at a reasonable rate.

Ethan would do well to spend the money on deductible realestate improvement to his house. Renovate the basement perhaps and add an outside entrance. Renovations don't depreciate the way a vehicle does and when he's sells the house he won't have to pay tax on the reno like he would have to on the van but if he's smart about the reno he may be able to ask more for the home especially considering the blossoming of home office culture with the Coof.

True enough. No one should accuse Ethan either. There are better assets than a van to invest in when you can rent a U-Haul cube van in Marlton for $20-$40 a day.

It takes a lot of trips to pay for that Mercedes van. If memory serves Ethan bought a pick up truck he could rent to himself (tax avoidance) for business and then rent a trailer from U-Haul for even less. Or just buy a trailer that won't depreciate at nearly the rate a vehicle does.

Yep. Even I have all of my physical books stored at an office which I pay rent for, and use my company vehicle to go to for packing and dropping off packages at USPS. It's all fantastic tax write-offs and good and useful stuff for the business. This is business 101 stuff.
