Well, our WAY overpaid limp dick of a county "health director" has issued his own order to once again lock the county I live in down, starting Sunday. If things are so fucking bad, why isn't the order effective at midnight tonight? This affects me but little. Can do without going to Costco. If I have to wait to get into the commissary, so be it. Have some medical appointments during this period, expect to make them. Life is NOT good here in the state of Insanity (CA). Just damned glad my son and his family escaped.

Speaking at a meeting of the Monterey County Board of Supervisors this afternoon, Monterey County health officer Dr. Edward Moreno announced he is imposing a shutdown order on the county, effective at 10 p.m. Sunday.
The order is essentially the same as the one Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would impose when ICU capacity fell below 15 percent in any of the state's regions. Monterey County's is about 20 percent, but Moreno decided to act anyway.
Under the order, everyone is asked to stay at their home "as much as possible," restaurants are limited to takeout only, many retail businesses are limited to 20 percent capacity, and hair salons, barbershops and many other businesses must close, but elementary schools that have waivers can remain open.

What's wrong with their face?? I can't even tell if it's a man or a woman.
Also, why is hospital staff allowed to have phones on the floor (which can possibly become contaminated and most people put their phones up to their face to talk. . .). All of the nurses (former and current) always stated they weren't allowed personal shit at work. The only exception I know of is when a nurse petitioned for people with kids to have their phones near them after her child ended up waiting to be identified in the morgue for hours cause they couldn't get a hold of her due to the policy but that was a single hospital.

That sounds pretty toothless, there's no crime or punishment defined for anyone anywhere in that bill, unless I'm missing something. It could probably be used in a civil suit, though.

Targeted administration of the vaccine(s) is being planned. My employer sent out a survey with some questions to determine where I fall in the vaccination stack and gauge my interest. I told them I was willing but didn't want to get it right away. They wouldn't have prioritized me anyway, I'm unimportant and low risk.
I do not know if things will go back to normal after the most vulnerable populations are vaccinated. I doubt it. The argument will be, "We know the vaccine prevents symptomatic illness, but we don't know if it prevents transmission. This makes COVID even more dangerous, because even if you were vaccinated you could be an asymptomatic superspreader and infect everyone who isn't vaccinated yet."

Two years? How abut now. Michigan's Governor Whitmer still wishes the state legislature would make the current mask requirement from HHS (Health & Human Services) an actual bill she could sign into law. Luckily, both branches of the state legislature are Republican-controlled and the majority leaders have refused to give in to this demand. This leads to the next point:
I could easily see Whitmer and other Blue governors wanting to impose this. At the same time, many haven't been open with their metrics they're using to justify restrictions. Maybe this would end up being yet another way for them to move the goalposts. ("Did i say x%? I meant x + 10% #sorrynotsorry")
The more I think about face shields, my biggest concern would be that they probably don't stop airborne particles if they're the open/flip kind. Someone with COVID could sneeze and the virus could travel through the air and around/up the shield into the shield-wearer's respiratory system.
It's a catch-22. Those unable to wear masks for legitimate reasons likely have no other alternative but a shield. But the shield probably isn't as helpful as they think and likely provides more of a false sense of security than masks do.
I'll partially agree that anyone who wears a shield when they don't need/have to is a jackass.
Let's hope Bells Palsy is as infrequent as someone else posted. I knew someone with it where it affected one of the corners of their mouth and gave them slightly slurred speech.
I've seen rather devout Christians discuss this very subject and debate the ethics of taking a COVID vaccine that was made from the tissue of aborted fetuses if it goes against their closely-held beliefs.
It largely depends on what home school options are available in a given area. In some locations, different parents may handle teaching on a rotation basis so everyone takes their turn and it doesn't require a full-time commitment. Other groups may have parents teach their strong subjects. for example, a CPA might teach hands-on accounting skills such as budgeting and the true cost of loans after including the interest. Still other groups will use certified teachers so that the parents can still work while the teachers handle the instruction.
For those in areas without homeschooling groups, though, it will be a lot tougher for parents to both support the family and make sure their kids are taught what they need to know.
It may largely depend on hospital policy. However, smartphones with cameras are probably the biggest concern because of the potential to take pictures of videos that would violate HIPAA in the US. With the sharp resolution on some of the latest camera phones, it would be too easy to take pics/videos that unknowingly identify a patient in the background or clearly show private information that shouldn't be seen by the public.
What confuses me is the observation that the health care workers that complain the most about being overworked seem to be the ones that have the time to take and post Tiktoks and other videos showing what looks more like choreographed routines than something spontaneous.

Another danger with homeschooling is kids who are abused and/or neglected not being exposed to any kind of normalcy, getting the chance to make friends/trust teachers they can report to, and even getting food. That's always been an issue. Wacko weirdos LOVE homeschooling because the regulation of it can be pretty lax, and they can abuse their kids more easily. I'm pretty sure the Turpin family ""homeschooled"" their kids.
I see homeschooling getting romanticized a lot on social media and I'm like...yes it has it's good points but it's not for everyone and it's FAR from perfect. Public school does have its net positives.
