When Nintendo decided to cancel the streaming for the Splatoon tournament (keyword being "streaming", not the tournament) because participants had #FreeMelee whatever that was, top participants decided to drop out as a protest and later...... joining the Squid House (a pun on the Big House tourney) for the Splatoon tournament. The prize pool is much higher (5 digit US dollars afaik?) compared with the official tournament. Granted, Nintendo's prize pool is a joke ($25 in Nintendo Gold lmao) but these participants still wanted to participate in the official tournaments already well aware of the prize pool and dropping out for another tournament only when Nintendo canceled the streaming should already tell you where their priorities lie.The thing that nobody is gonna tell you is that, if these Smash and Splatoon players or whatever wanted to boycott Nintendo, they'd stop fucking playing Smash and Splatoon. They're Nintendo products. Do they just not count to the average user of Twitter dot com because they like them? Half the people doing this have Nintendo related pics on their profile anyway. Probably the most obnoxious person I've seen do this has a fucking Hyrule Warriors banner on their profile.
Just like the last major Smash controversy, nothing will come from this and it will be forgotten in less than six months.
Sick, I'm the guy on the left. No one here was the guy on the right though.Done thread's plagued happy now?

To be fair, almost no one bought the Wii U and some were still expressing interest in the games on that system, but didn't want the console itself when they had the switch.or in the Switches case wii u port and muso skin, come out for fans to drool over.
It's worth noting that most of the huge Nintendo brands are extremely marketable in a way most Sony and Microsoft brands can't compare. Take the Pokémon franchise for example, a huge majority of its profit comes from the obscene amount of merchandising it has and not from the games themselves. It wouldn't surprise me if a huge part of Nintendo's profits came from licensed products rather than the actual consoles and games. It is always worth noting that somehow, someway, Nintendo is one of the top ten richest companies (Some sources even say the richest overall?) in Japan. I was genuinely surprised learning this, after all Nintendo just has brands and games, whereas Microsoft or Sony you expect to be big, they're service/appliance empires, while Nintendo is just Nintendo (I'm pretty sure?)
I get the impression that their fanbase in general isn't knowledgeable about Nintendo (or gaming to an extent) especially since their shitty practices have gone back since the NES. Their fanbase is filled with a bunch of cult like autists who will buy their games no matter what and this protest will clear up in a few months anyway.I can't believe all the Smash autists come to this thread to give content for free. We got those people salty about Hero and Steve many pages back now we got a #FreeMelee guy.
I hate what Nintendo is doing but it's funny how these people are surprised at a practice Nintendo has been very infamous for doing for years.
As aforementioned, to be fair, the controversy behind the Smash scene was just the Ultimate players, but even still doesn't change that it's reasonable for Nintendo to stay away from competitive Smash as a whole. As for Smash, it's obvious they didn't want a competitive scene over a decade ago or deal with them (but who can blame them considering they have bad hygiene and shitty behavior).
I wasn't just referring to the pedo allegations, just their shitty behavior in general. From shouting hate at players, throwing a dead crab at Hungrybox, literally following certain players around and booing them, flat out getting salty and throwing their controllers, and physically attacking each other. There's a whole history I don't wanna take hours typing in.As aforementioned, to be fair, the controversy behind the Smash scene was just the Ultimate players, but even still doesn't change that it's reasonable for Nintendo to stay away from competitive Smash as a whole.
If on the surface journalists make news articles about Smash pedo allegations, people generally don't care the type of game it is, and would rather stay away from the franchise community.
You are literally describing what it's like in any competitive fighting game scene, smash being arguably more tame in certain salt and hate ways than other games. And there is really no history of people actually attacking each other, I'm sure it's happened, but it's a popular game, I'm sure people have thrown hands over it at some point.I wasn't just referring to the pedo allegations, just their shitty behavior in general. I've seen more rage and salt revolving around Smash, both with Melee and new releases individually, than with any other game in the FGC combined. It may be a reason related to numbers and popularity, but even doing something as simple as looking up "Smash Salt" brings up dozens of videos almost universally above 10 minutes with about a dozen iterations, whereas doing the same search for "FGC salt" brings up half as many videos all at half a duration compared to the former, most of which are composed of Smash clips anyway. So no, I disagree that Smash is more "tame" compared to other games in the FGC when it appears to be the opposite. I'll grant you it may compare favorably to other genres such as first person shooters or MOBAs when it comes to salt, but Smash still seems to come out on top when it comes to nerd rage. You are literally describing what it's like in any competitive fighting game scene, smash being arguably more tame in certain salt and hate ways than other games. That crab being thrown at Hbox has been the best thing to ever happen to him. He would've gotten even more sympathy if it actually hit him, but he rode that meme to his benefit greatly.
I've asked for this in the past to no response.Only when this thread gets locked. Seriously though, thank you, it was long overdue.

snipping the simping
This is the most middle ground I've gotten from this thread and I agree with you. Smashers break their controllers and be autistic tards, and also unrelated, other gamers act on par or far worse. So no, I disagree that Smash is more "tame" compared to other games in the FGC when it appears to be the opposite. Those "Ultimate players" were also regulars in tournaments for 4 as well iirc, and keep in mind that the Wii U sold slightly over half the units that the Gamecube did. The focus on Ultimate specifically was more Meleefag propaganda to dissuade Nintendo from supporting Ultimate, which clearly didn't work.As aforementioned, to be fair, the controversy behind the Smash scene was just the Ultimate players, but even still doesn't change that it's reasonable for Nintendo to stay away from competitive Smash as a whole.

Supporting scammers to ownI'm not sure if anyone heard but there's been some news spreading that Nintendo sent a cease & desist to some guy who was making joycons of Etika (who was famous in the smash community) aka "joycon boyz" and giving the money to charity. I didnt comment on that here because it sure sounded suspicious and unrelated to me but what matters is that Smashers have been using that to fuel their hate for nintendo even further.
So guess what happened? They JUST found the guy was basically a scammer making money out of etika's death.
He got C&D by nintendo months ago for basically selling trademarked products but waited until now to ride the hate train, while also not contacting etika's family (they're against it) and it was revealed only 30% of money goes to charity IF it covers production cost.
TL;DR: Smashers blindly supported a scammer who was profitting out of Etika's suicide just to spite nintendo. This includes Gamexplain, Hungrybox and moistCr1tikal. Congrats smashers, you did it again.
