I thought it was pretty obvious. She's self centered and unempathetic. She doesn't care about the feelings of her closest relatives and only source of human interaction, why would she care about how words make strangers feel? She only cares about offending people when it would ruin her own image of herself. Queer can't do that since she's pretending to be "queer".
