I have another MTF friend who is 6’1”, although I don’t know when he became that tall. And he’s what I would call awkwardly effeminate. Not the confident gay boy who spends a lot of time on his appearance, but the sensitive nerdy guy who naturally sits with his legs crossed and has a lot of female friends.

Thinking about that more, I think a lot of troons are people who are moderately gender non conforming but not in a confident way. Like, I knew a girl in high school who was really butch. She dressed like any urban guy (saggings pants with two pairs of boxers and all), wore a suit to prom, played basketball, and had an attractive girlfriend and lots of other friends. I mean, first friend sounds like he might just be on the spectrum and watched a bunch of women instead of men, but that would sort itself out as he ages. Not everyone gets the cues straight the first time. I want to say 6’1” isn’t that tall but I live in the land of Eastern Europeans over here so I might be spoiled for height.

I really do think that these are people who got mixed signals.
