If we let these idiots decide what code was good to run based on the opinions of who coded it, and checked their privilege before checking if it compiled, I doubt we'd have a functioning Internet.

Actually it's a little darker if you dig into a wee bit.

The issue started when a coder who was working on the Ruby project tweeted "transsexuals have issues with reality" on his personal Twitter.

Then that SJW Coraline tweeted for him to "apologize" and donate money to a certain charity or she would "wreck his shit".

Once the deadline passed and no apology appeared Coraline posted that thread with the title "Transphobic coder needs to be removed from this project" that started this whole shebang.

That's pretty much the textbook case of extortion isn't it?

Like, honestly, I'm really sympathetic to a lot of SJW bullshit.

But still, I'm successful in life because I know when to shut down the SJW bullshit. I'll say "sorry, I have to do real work". I'm a programmer. I deal with github bullshit to make my rent. If I'm dealing with this kind of bullshit, when I stop having fun (about an hour in or so), I lock down the thread and tell everyone involved to blow me.

One of the hallmarks of maturity is knowing when to not pick a fight, and that authority doesn't exist merely to be challenged. SJWs don't get that and never will, there's no fight too small to pick, no stake too low, no print too fine to read between the lines and no person too superior to defer to, except themselves. I'd be more sympathetic if they didn't insist on charging in to EVERYTHING, frequently before considering who benefits and call anyone who doesn't jump right in with them ableist. Reducing sexism isn't a bad idea.... I'm all for it, until someone calls me a misogynist for not trying to boycott the makers of "Mr Clean", that's where you lose me, and I'd assume, a lot of other potential allies. Movements that don't ruthlessly excise the crazy from them lose their core message to said crazies.

Real problems vs "manufactured" ones, they can't really solve the structured misogyny of some 3rd world countries that are literally 100 years behind the times, or at least not solve it easily. But, they can convince everyone that "manspreading" is real and a problem, and get a few people to feel guilty about it, or change their behaviors for fear of attracting negative attention, then they've won just the same! Meanwhile, it's still legal to beat/rape/kill your wife in that same country, but, at least they did SOMETHING, right?!

It's part of living in an intellectual cul-de-sac. The Internet makes it amazingly easy to filter out the people and things you don’t want to hear. By constantly surrounding yourself with the “right” kind of people, it’s easy to be convinced that not only are you in the right, but that anyone among the unwashed masses who disagrees with you is wrong, and comically so. Within this bubble, the battle is already won. You’ve painted a pretty enough picture that convinces you that injustice is defeated, save for a few of the willfully ignorant outside the gates. That also explains why they fly off the handle so easily, they literally have no idea how to handle criticism, even constructively given. WHen you live in that structured world where you only get stories you want to hear and only get feedback from those you've selected and vetted to "like" your posts, the first time you run across someone who disagrees, the very first thought is "TROLL, hating on me for no reason, I'm justified in "trolling" back with names/insults/hacking/doxing/whatever"

Some folk have lost the ability to grade their own performance in life, how's THAT for checking privilege?
