YABookgate

Where was the racism? It’s not racist to just disagree with someone.
She questioned a non-white person, therefore she is racist.

In all seriousness, the logic here is probably something like this person's.

Ah, Cimone's a mindreader, I see. That's an awful lot of reaching to get to "I think all Black Wamen are Bullies!" from "Classic books actually tended to have pretty liberal views on social issues, especially for the time periods in which they were written."

I thought this was an interesting video; hadn't realized the YA market has cratered to the extent it has.

Alexa Donne not being the sort to gore sacred cows she says nothing about the commisariat of "Sensitivity Readers," authors being chased off of Twitter for expressing even the mildest of deviations from whatever it is you're supposed to believe that day, and so on. But I'd not heard about YA imprints shuttering due to poor sales, author advances declining drastically, etc. Plus with the krauts who own Penguin Random House buying Simon & Schuster there's only going to be more consolidation ahead.

Think in hindsight, that explains a lot and why it is YA authors are so batshit insane. They know no one is reading their shit, and that scares them. The gatekeeping and sensitivity readers may have definitely scared people away, but you know what they say:

Go woke, go broke.

EDIT: Bonus YouTube comments. Some of them are mockable.

I hope this is real. While I do become amused when I see PuddleDuck update this thread with insanity, YA as a genre is honestly below harlequin romances in terms of depth. I read a few a couple of years ago and a lot feel like Eye Junk Food or How Do You Do Fellow Kids?. It wasn't until I decided to really crack open some of my hefty Fantasy novels that I was reminded of what real, good writing was like. Add in what miserable people a lot of these authors seem to be and voila. There's one person out there who will be smiling and raising a glass when the YA tower crumbles.

But I hope it'll be a slow downfall because I do admit seeing these lunatics fight over themselves to be woke on twitter is pretty hilarious.

Trying to remember the last YA I read that I unironically enjoyed... I guess The Book Thief? Is that a YA? Sometimes I see it tagged as one, and sometimes I don't, so I'm not really sure if it even counts. And I remember liking a couple Ellen Hopkins books as a younger teenager, unsure how they hold up. Otherwise I'll "enjoy" a YA the same way I "enjoy" Tommy Wiseau's The Room.

Hopefully once the current YA shithouse falls, that age demo can start having something actually decent written for them instead of re-skins of older successful properties and the political tryhard stuff. Not saying you can't do a story with a political message, but you can do it without the book just being a list of dos and don'ts for interacting with your first, real, live black person.

Please just go read fanfiction. Do we need to get into why grown adults writing stories about a bunch of 15 year olds fucking each other is creepy?

> Complaining about realism in fantasy novels
How does the protag being in their mid-twenties make it any more realistic?

Aside from the blatant I'm So Mature For My Age stuff, this doesn't make any sense. Why would YA protags read as more mature than characters in books.. targeted towards adults? Why are droves of young writers switching to New Adult? The only logical conclusion is that NA is not actually targeted towards functioning adults.

So close but still so far. You're an adult. Read book for adult. Out of everyone in this youtube comment section, I got the most hope for this one.

Basically what I'm getting from this is there are a load of teenage girls / 20-something womanchildren who grew up on YA and have halfway come to the realization that they are almost, or already, adults and their tastes should suit their age. They want something more challenging to read, but not TOO challenging where characters have human flaws and the conflicts aren't morally simplistic. Thus, where YA was already a middleground of literature, they need to re-brand as New Adult, which is totally different. New Adult explicitly markets to adult women in arrested development instead of an audience of 13-17 year olds.
e: fixed the links lol

Her narcissism is off the charts. She's one of the most sanctimonious people I've ever seen in this sphere, and of course her masochistic cult members gobble it up:

She commented on the latest Jess Cluess nonsense too, because they're STILL talking about that:

'The pain narrative' as if no white character has ever gone through pain. Also, did she forget to edit her book's Wikipedia description before she said that or what?

Fucking hypocrite.

“A Blade So Black has been described as Afrofuturist by scholars.”

As if any scholar has given this book the time of day.

I will say this, it is impressive that McKinney has found the time to write three books, considering how much of her time seems to be spent on Twitter. Though, I guess it isn’t too difficult when you have the complete series of Buffy on DVD and a copy of Alice in Wonderland.

You know what I hate in books? Conflict. Plots. When you have a plot, sometimes a bad thing will happen, and that offends me.

This is what YA writers and readers actually believe...

The Wall Street Journal just interviewed me about this Jessica Cluess lady being cancelled last week. We'll see if they're gonna have a woke take or if they're going to defend author's rights to just talk about books.

I had no idea del Arroz was a Kiwi. This board just got 5% classier!
