The difference with Anita is that she was actually able to create a company that employed several people, at least for a little while. She made money from speaking engagements, consulting, a few Kickstarter projects, a $400,000 grant from Intel, and from being part of Twitter's Trust and Safety Council. Feminist Frequency also has a patreon that makes over $3000 a month. Despite all this, recent tax information has shown that Feminist Frequency is broke and pretty much everybody in it has been laid off... though their troon member (the one who wrote the "trans issues" review of Cyberpunk 2077 for Polygon) still calls himself an employee of Feminist Frequency--but I suppose he's trans and has gotten used to calling himself whatever he wants while people treat him as such.

The only organization Zoe was able to employ worked supposedly for free, from what we've heard. They pretended to help harrassment victims wrote Zoe's book for her.

Makes you wonder which is better: Lying about video games so that people will pay you to complain, or lying about yourself so that companies will hire you for social justice points. They both ended up pretty unsuccessful in the end, But I'm sure Anita's reputation hasn't been soiled nearly so badly.

I checked their Youtube and they seem to be putting out videos still--reviews of the awful new Star Trek, critiques of movies I've never heard of, and podcasts--but their view counts are pitiful. They can't possibly be earning money from Youtube ad revenue. Plus, a great many of their most recent videos are tagged as "Fundraiser".

If I had to guess, Anita's squeaking by on Patreon and other donations, and maybe still getting paid to speak now and then. But she has a couple of people tagging along, probably working for free or very little, as a "hobby" or for clout.

But just looking at their video view counts, it's clear Feminist Frequency's best days are behind them. Paying people to complain about bikini armor is very 2014.

Her real earnings mostly came from speaking engagements at colleges (usually a few thousand a pop), shakedowns as a “consultant” where she got paid to fuck off, her various advances for books, comics, and a movie option, and of course her Chuck Tingle Kickstarter.

All things considered, during her “peak” (2014-201 she may have cracked $100,000 a year at best and doesn’t make anything close to that now. Any income this whore makes is too much but now she’s stashed away at a job of no importance at some game studio.

IIRC, her FF podcast ran out of cash. Her videos don't get the views they did at her 2014 peak. She occasionally pops up on Twitter to bitch about stupid shit (like boob armor in The Mandalorian), only for people to tell her to STFU and go away. The last time she had any relevance is when she called Sargon a "garbage person" at VidCon a few years ago. Her "TransLife Line for gamers" grift ran out of steam right out the gate.

Last I checked, her Patreon only grabs about $3200 a month. That is much, much less than what she got in her salad days. Still not enough to pay her FF staff, but enough for a single grifter to live on.

Anita has been in the U.S. for over a decade now and that's where she conducts business from. Even if she did get money, she would have to pay at least some of it back. He was supposedly the one who came up with Feminist Frequency, focus on videogames, and the kickstarter campaign. Anita's struggle after ending the partnership supports that theory. Meanwhile's McIntosh's Pop Culture Detective youtube channel is getting hundred of thousands or millions of views per video in spite of erratic release schedule.

Before McIntosh Anita was involved in number of scams and failed projects. One that there is still record of is Alex Mandosian's teleseminars scheme. Sooner or later Anita will find someone else to latch onto. If she somehow manages to get big again, people will try to cancel her over association with Joss Whedon.

Yes, I am referring to a specific government initiative for like $10 million bucks announced around the time she made the site. I have posted about this in the past here, but I did not actually say much about it. I did archive some things and took screenshots, but I did not flesh out the post as I planned to do. I assume that I didn't say much about it there because I didn't want to powerlevel, and I don't actually know that much about the nuts and bolts of it. Or I just forgot to.

The arts stuff isn't anything I have personal knowledge of, but Canadian Arts grants are different from what I'm talking about. They have been controversial for a long time. Canadian content laws are pretty weird and the Canadian Film Fund gives grants for movies all over the world. I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility that Canada provides grants and bursaries to organizations outside of Canada as long as they provide a service or benefit to Canadians (even an abstract cultural benefit).

In an earlier life I had some loose ties to profs and grad students that were within social justice fields (gender studies, community psychology) so I spent some time at potlucks and other events with these types of people. They spend a lot of their time and energy writing proposals for acquiring grants or other funding sources, and being successful at it was one of the big ways to build prestige. The Canadian government (at least at this time) was more than happy to dump money into social justice causes, and I was contracted a few times by one of the people in this group and was paid with funds acquired through similar means.

The overall feeling I got from these experiences was that it was almost a grift, and everyone was pretty open about it. It was not unusual for other people to hire their kids or wives and the system was kind of set up to encourage this stuff. There was little oversight because they wanted the people running the programs (grad students, researchers) to spread money to the wider community.

Preferably to "marginalized" people, so there were not a lot of strings attached to the hourly contracts and nobody was really auditing this small stuff. What I got paid (maybe a few grand over a couple of months) probably was just recorded with a few other expenses and a vague description (if that).

Back in the early 2010's there were some high profile teen suicides due to bullying in Canada, and the media had a feeding frenzy. They were criticizing the government about funding for anti-bullying programs and a lobbying group really put the pressure on. I have little doubt that money was being thrown at it similarly to what I described in my experience.

When I used the keyword "bullying" on the Canada open government website funding database just for one year there was like 40 different smallish grants to organizations and projects with vague names or just numbered entities.

Sarkeesian's problem has always been an absence of imagination. Her successes have been built on the charisma of others who have used her as a mouthpiece.

Her partnership with McInotosh worked so well because she was a bland personality, divested of the tumblrisms and histrionics of her danger-haired peers, and therefore able appeal to normies. In the conception of GamerGate, she was the turkey baster - an inert object that was used to transmit the vital spark of life.

I am certain that she won't appreciate the metaphor, but without somebody with their hand up her backside, guiding her movements, she has to fall back on a languid work ethic and a prosaic inability to think creatively. I've watched a lot of Sarkeesian's videos and never once have I been taken by the sense of that I am watching a human-being with passions, and a rich and varied life. Her dullness borders on the enigmatic.

Had Clinton not stumbled in the race for the White House in, 2016, it seems plausible that Sarkeesian would have been slotted into some kind of advisory board or think tank. On the other hand, while companies were happy to throw money in her direction, to the best of my knowledge, they all stopped short of offering her employment. I think anyone who deals with Sarkeesian, even for a short time, will pick up on her meanness of spirit. How could they not? It's her only visible human trait.
