yeah these pictures definitely give "taking the special ed class on a field trip" vibes. laura is keeping her locked inside and keeping a close eye on her after that little suicide attempt (which, what did she do anyway? cut herself? pills? i bet it was pills. like, asprin or something, not prescription pills). laura might be dumb but she's doing a better job at wrangling sammie than mama bushart could (tbf how could she when she's watching two toddlers? can't watch a giant third one). no NOTWs for a while, i guess.

Mental age is an OK shorthand that seems to give values that approximate IQ, so if you think she's functioning like a ten year old, 10x100/16 or slightly above 60.

IQ actually DOES seemingly decline from childhood till 18 or so in people educated beyond their abilities -- hence the many, many educational initiatives that looked like they were doing well in children (e.g. Project Head Start) or adoptive studies of black kids by white parents where there is a basically a steady yearly decline and by adulthood all cognitive benefits cease. Perhaps these benefits could be maintained somehow but since no one apparently has done it I doubt it is very practicable. Maybe education just allows you to reach your educational potential faster where required, especially as cognitive differences in terms of absolute ability are much less stark the younger one is ... strengthened by the fact that higher ability people reach their cognitive peak a couple years later than their dimmer peers.

I wonder about the social outcomes of those adoptive studies? IMO emotional intelligence and work ethic are so much more important than IQ in sorting the healthy and self-sufficient from the hopelessly floundering trashy bunch. Which is why the Forrest Gump level IQ friend of mine, who had stable upper middle class parents, is better off than even smarter members of the Sammie crew.

Your IQ wont save you when you have the impulse control of a jellyfish.

Hi, ive been reading this thread for weeks. Now that I've finished, I finally looked up Sammie on Facebook and... Whaddayaknow it, we have a mutual friend in common.

His real name is Sam. He moved to a town in Mississippi from Baton Rouge, La. I'm curious if he actually ever met Sammie. He's lived a lot of places. He has a set of twins with a friend and is shacking up with her these days.
He's also been convicted of statutory rape of a 14 year old girl. He was dating the 14 yo girl's mother at the time.

Sammie sure knows how to pick em.

It's pretty common for people with developmental disabilities to hump like wildcats.

One of the educational courses for caregivers that gets held at the local adult center is about how to make sure that your tard doesn't get exploited. It's sometimes difficult for caregivers to comprehend the fact that yes, some people are really not all that picky about their sex partner's mental age. This thread is ample evidence.
