Fun thing about "white" is that it's simultaneously something bad, but also something for which the people creating these images are arbiters. This means they can define anyone they like as "white" regardless of that person's ethnic background.

BTW I read up about the Iban people. Although they look Chinese (which presumably gives Wong a pretext to latch onto them), genetic evidence points to an affinity to Thai, Cambodian and Indonesian people. And from Wikipedia,

The Temuan appear in Cluster 2 there, which is the Cluster most closely related to Chinese. But they obviously are not Chinese either, and have a few thousand years of separation from them.

I'm not too sure about the Iban being Christian, but essentially at some people all of the people across all of SE Asia would have been animist, and over time agriculture and religion would have brought changes so that a particular ethnic group was now firstly Hindu and Buddhist, and then by the 13th century onwards Muslim. Christianity doesn't really have a significant role, except that Islam set out to eradicate all traces of pagan beliefs, so any group that was Islamified would have lost a lot of its tradition. The Europeans mostly didn't give a fuck about what religion the natives practised, because they just wanted to make money.

So the remaining animists would have been in a jungle or up a mountain or some such, some place where it was too much trouble for the neighbouring Muslims to rape and pillage them into submission. Anyway the Dutch and Germans sent out missionaries in the 19th and 20th century to convert these various people to Christianity, which mostly worked fine because they were fairly tolerant of their animist tendencies:
