Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

The short version is, "We have absolutely no data on this because the big pharmaceutical companies won't test drugs on pregnant women."

On tonight's evening news, the doctor that discusses current medical happenings answered various questions. One that stuck out was the question, "How long will the vaccine last? Will we have to get re-vaccinated periodically?" The short answer was "We don't know." because they have to perform follow-up studies over the next two years.

This is going give those sitting on the fence about the vaccine justified reason to wait if at all possible, even if they get named or shamed as "COVID-iots" as one I heard one person label anyone refusing the vaccine without a valid medical reason. *sigh*

My great uncle apparently tested positive for wu flu 5-6 days ago. He had a stroke and brain aneurysm (and one in his groin later) decades ago and has all sorts of issues because of it. He's a lucky bastard that's for sure.
He's had 0 symptoms, but apparently they have him on oxygen treatments or some shit as a "precaution"? He's also in a home. Those two things worry me more than the chink flu (who's ass he seems to be kicking) Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought I read something about the breathing treatments being worse for patients. Anyone got any info about that?

There's no end in sight to this shit even with vaccines rolling out. You can't plan or look forward to anything and I can only play so many vidya and prune my plants so many times ..

Due to the restrictions on living and movement in society I have not been sick with anything this year not even a minor cold or throat infection. This concerns me since I usually get sick at least once a year meaning my immune system is a bit out of shape. My guess is many people who get sick with even minor shit in the upcoming year are gonna feel extra sick since most people are not giving their immune system a workout.
To be fair it takes more than just a single year for your immune system to fall out of shape.

But I've been sick with a viral infection three times since late last November (almost all of them involving travel). I don't think I had it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did.

I found out more information about the vaccine. The very first people vaccinated at my facility will be doctors, nurses, and providers.

I am supposed to get my vaccine in the second or third round.

The side effects are supposed be classic rona sans coof.

My manager wants our department to stagger who gets it, and each person should be off from work the day after receiving it due to said side effects. I will be posting about my vaccine experience .

CEO of Pfizer is not getting the vaccine (Archive)
He claims it's because he doesn't want to "cut in line," which is in no way bullshit corporatespeak. High-powered pharma CEOs are well-known for their selfish altruism and dedication to fairness, after all.

Safe and effective, everyone. Safe and effective. No doubt at all.

Why is the lowest level of restrictions medium?

Did the Terror Alert System get memory-holed?

Because I still remember a solid 10 years there where every time you went to the airport you'd hear the "The terror alert level is currently... orange. Please report any suspicious behavior or unattended baggage." message on repeat.
It was never NOT orange. It was orange up until they quit playing the message.

Eventually people and even politicians figured it was so dumb, just like they did with the Iraq War in general. It only took about a decade and like halfway through Obama's term before it was quietly taken behind the shed and shot.

That's the sort of idiocy we're looking at here with long-term effects of the Chinavirus panic. It's gonna define this whole decade before the politicians start having to say "we overreacted" just like the Republicans did with the War on Terror. My guess is you'll probably wear a mask on a plane forever because of both the virus and terrorism, at least unless someone wearing a mask puts a bomb in it and joins the Shoe Bomber and Underwear Bomber to become the Facemask Bomber. You'd probably break the TSA at that point.

Yep, people on my social media are already upset that people are getting together for Christmas because COVID.

Also, this video is hilarious. Not only is it the worst CGI ever, but I see wrestling fans legit upset because "Vince and Trump are buddies, and COVID kills and blah blah blah."

So hypothetically lets say covid-21 is a thing and its more virulent too lets say 10% of untreated people would die regardless of age and health, what would be the red-pill take on that are you gonna comply or are you gonna rebel? Because In the event there is an actual deadly virus on the loose are you gonna run the same gambit?

That's about the threshold where I'd support mandatory mask laws and some level of lockdowns, assuming that it was decisively proven that the disease was that dangerous and the initial containment efforts failed. I would also expect the government come up with a coherent plan for said lockdown and when it would end and that said lockdown would not be applied evenly because the town of Bumfuck, Wyoming doesn't need the same restrictions as New York City. Personally I would comply with contact tracing and I would expect most people to do the same, even if I wouldn't harass people over it and I would expect quarantines to be instituted. I would actually comply with mask laws, and I'd be a mask that actually worked like a respirator and not the retarded surgical masks which don't do shit, and I'd expect the government to properly communicate the effectiveness of masks and make sure respirator production was scaled up.

I would also do shit the government decided not to do, like ban air travel until consistent testing was available and then require anyone flying to wear a respirator and present proof of a negative test. As opposed to what they did where it's supposedly a deadly fucking pandemic but you can still hop on a plane to and from the hotspots (until the flights shut down from lack of demand), that was a joke. I would make sure sports leagues have a concrete plan to resume play as quickly as possible using mandatory testing and possibly isolation of players, because people need to keep morale up. On that same line, I would make sure mental health is as easy to access as possible. I would support small businesses more and expect the big businesses that need to stay open in some form support their employees much better than they did instead of the CEOs making obscene profits while their employees work in fear.

And this is the big one, NO PROTESTS ALLOWED. Since this is an actually dangerous disease, you don't get the right to peacefully protest unless you hold it socially distanced wearing the proper masking. Anyone who breaks the rules gets arrested and sent to a quarantine camp. Even if you have some inherently just cause like "black people should be allowed to get away with anything because muh slavery and muh Jim Crow" you still get sent to quarantine and can hang with the "muh freedom" types there.

See, the funny thing is that an actual pandemic is self-evident because there literally are bodies in streets and a constant fear that emerges naturally and not because the man on CNN told you to be scared. I made similar posts like this back in March in the "Lockdowns and Quarantines thread" that the idea of lockdowns and all sorts of restrictions isn't necessarily bad and I don't oppose it because "muh freedom", I oppose it because even with what we knew in March it was a massive overreaction and akin to evacuating a state because some weak-ass tropical storm that'll blow through in a few hours is hyped up to be a lethal Category 5 hurricane of death. Real pandemics don't have to be sold and marketed to the people.
