I don't know shit about that, but couldn't it be that Resetera is costing more than it brings in terms of taxes ? Maybe the website isn't that profitable but taxes keep coming ? Is that possible ?

Because if that's not the above, it clearly tells you a lot about the whole hypocrisy. A so-called "progressive" place that strive on non-paid staff and tries to avoid taxes as much as it can.

ResetEra should, from a technical standpoint, cost virtually nothing to run. It's just a forum hosted somewhere - the staff is all volunteer and all of the content is fan generated. It targets a very specific demographic so the ads CPM should be good. It also never looks like it's invested into - meaning that the owner is just keeping the money that piles up. It's not like the forum will ever cost more to run in the future. They're probably making really good money for doing literally nothing.

All corporate "progressivism" is hypocrisy. Google says they're "progressive" but was going to sell China a search engine that returned 0 results for "Tiananmen Square Massacre" and probably would have coded in a feature that sends your IP to the CCP automatically. Nike says that Black Lives Matter and "all people should be free" while profiting from literal Chinese slave labor. Apple goes on and on about "human dignity" while making equipment in sweatshop factories with barred windows, child labor, and suicide prevention nets.

Idk, the US system is complicated for an oustider. Maybe they made a lot of money at the start, but have to pay their taxes based on what 2 years after, when they don't make as much money ? In literary theory, this is called cognitive estrangement and it's derived from the concept of ostranenie in Russian Formalism. If you view art as more than just a way to make money, then the setting of CP2077 has some actual artistic function. The aesthetics and design are in service of producing meaning about our own society, not just looking cool. I know ever since Blade Runner that culture slaves have fallen in love with the cyberpunk aesthetic without actually paying attention to why it's used, but this ResetEra response really bothers me. Maybe I'm not knowledgeable enough about the game, but when I see the trans aesthetics and everything it doesn't scream "good LGBT representation!!!" to me, it suggests how corporate appropriation of identity through advanced technologies reflects something wrong with our own society.

There was a post earlier in the thread from twitter about how completing racing side quests unlocks a car with a trans decal, something which lolberal troon appeasers gushed over. But is that a good take away? That paying for a sticker denoting your identity and putting it on your cool (expensive) car would suddenly make you virtuous? Or how about that poster with a girl dick bulge used to advertise some drink? Doesn't it make way more sense to think, "Oh, nothing about this actually is good, it's like the people in this setting are monetizing aspects of identity under the guise of expressing virtue, turning that aspect of humanity into something totally meaningless and empty. And the technology they have has encouraged this breakdown to the point where we don't even know what being human really means anymore other than giving money to wealthy corporations to sate how we want to perceive ourselves."

But instead, these dumb terminally online troons think "This is great! This is a dream come true! Amazing LGBT representation!" or, alternatively, "This is horrible! They need to represent trans people better! We demand you put us in your game how we want to be seen!" They've not only missed the entire point, but actively further the problems being pointed at. That's why I barely even find the absurdity funny. Every ResetEra demand/praise embodies (at least partially) the exact issues which the setting problematizes. They're so narcissistically focused on inserting themselves into the setting that they haven't even stopped to wonder if that's in any way a good thing.

For as "smart" and allegedly educated so many people in gaming media/culture claim to be, it's shocking nobody highlights this. Video games are never going to be generally accepted as art because these people intellectually turn into children whenever they sit in front of a screen.

I've read now during the last two days the last 50 pages and I'm actually a bit confused. What I got out of it all is that some user didn't put a disclaimer about the alleged transphobia of Cyberpunk and the troons chimped out.
I'm not really into games anymore, so I don't really know what the actual problem with the game is. Is it just the chick with the huge dick? Or what? As far as I know is the chick with the dick based on a real trans woman, right? Even horsecock connoisseur Vaush didn't think that it is necessarily transphobic.

Otherwise this is great. 2020 was a terrible year and I'm happy that it ends with a bang nevertheless. Some months ago I enjoyed the meltdown of the troons because of J.K. Rowling's new book that was allegedly transphobic. I read the book soon afterwards and there was not one line that could be considered to be transphobic (for a normal person). This didn't matter to the troons of course, who had a huge mental breakdown on Twitter + all their activist allies and journalists, even though none of them ever read the book.

But now I see that the troons hadn't enough and even doubled down: Now they have a mental breakdown about virtual cocks?

The most interesting thing about ResetERA is for me that their internal "fight" was between mostly (autistic) white men and ... autistic white men pretending to be women. In all other contexts, for example whites and blacks arguing, you at least know that there is some intrinstic "truth" to their identity, whereas troons just came from nowhere and invented their own oppression. I'm not even talking about HSPS who are mostly very gay men who just want to pass as women, I don't really have a problem with them. But the fact that our culture entertains the delusions of autogynephiles (or: straight men who fetishise the idea of being a woman) is and probably was the most useless culture war in history. Maybe I'm missing something, but this guy doesn't seems autistic to me. Even in the lower level of ASD you will have noticeable problems with social interactions (maybe forums doesn't count).
