"Pressing charges" just means being willing to cooperate in a criminal case against the other person. There is no special legal mechanism where you can opt into having a criminal case brought against another person. That is the state's job. People can be arrested even if the victim doesn't want to press charges but usually it isn't worth anybody's time to go that far if the victim won't provide help and nobody else witnessed the crime.

The way Nick sees it is if anybody popular ever supported him and is a conservative patriot, than they're part of the movement forever. He uses the idea of contributing to the movement in a grander sense.
But not only that, if you actually "contribute to the movement", bring flags, stickers, show up to events and actually work to further the movement, you get 5 minute long rants about how you're destroying the movement with 'bad optics"

Showing up to events to help in anyway possible and wearing a purple shirt=Bad optics

Usually if there's a pending criminal case you can get the civil cases postponed until those wrap up otherwise defendants could be forced into a self incrimination situation trying to defend themselves in the civil trial.
