At one point, the Melee menu music played for a few seconds in the video and the chat genuinely believed that meant they were freeing Melee. Gotta love Nintendo fans

I think quite a few people are going to learn a very hard lesson that you don't get everything you want out of life, including a naked wooden puppet taken priority over Hero and Sephiroth of all characters is not and will never be a realistic outcome. They had the chance to get Geno in when their voices mattered in the Smash Ballot and yet did not show up. You don't get to choose not to play a game and then expect to win first place.
If most of the "fans" were legitimate and not just desperate for winning, belonging, and community, I'd be more sympathetic. But the way things looks, the Geno fan base is destined to collapse once again like characters such as Krystal and Deoxys as a remnant of the Ghost of Smash Speculation Past.

Sakurai is probably the most based game developer since he is the one developer who is having fun with his game and is pissing off tards while making so much god damn money.

There's a problem with his statement here, the Geno fan base did not bounce back when faced with crushing defeat during pre-Brawl. See, Geno used to have a big fan base during pre-Brawl and one of the biggest threads on Smashboards. Then he failed to get in and almost instantly became nothing more than a curios history lesson among Smash Speculators wanting to learn about its messy history. When Geno fans were given the opportunity to show up in the Smash Ballot, they did not and Fatman has no polls worth their salt - official or unofficial - to back him up. Only after Sakurai said he liked Geno did the fan base rise like the phoenix. By then, it was too late, the ballot was over, the roster was locked up, and they already got the ballot choices in. If Geno was a ballot choice, he would have been in by Fighter Pass 1, not now.
Oh and he didn't even buy Smash Wii U until January, 2017 (archive). It's nice that he named his cat Geno, but it shows that the character from Super Mario RPG was not that important to him if he didn't fight for him in the ballot.
Too late, so sad, you missed your chance. Unless the Geno fan base actually decide to stick together and actually fight for more than "GENO IN SMASH!", he will never get in and you are the least equipped to lead them no matter how long you've supported the wooden puppet.

The funny thing about the Geno fanbase is that most of them never even played Super Mario RPG and don't give any good reasons why he should get in above any of the newer characters.
Hell even Corrin who was the worst inclusion in Smash history had more of a justifiable existence then Geno since Corrin was a main character and was essentially a marketing strategy like Roy given Fire Emblem at the time was still climbing back to popularity. As for Geno, Mario doesn't need any advertising for his games given people will play Mario games because they are damn Mario games.
Unironically Genofags are probably the most delusional out of all the infamous would-be Smash characters fanbases cause at least the other ones like for Shantae, Waluigi, Shadow, Isaac, Shovel Knight and Ashley have more of an argument for why they should be in Smash than any Genofag for Geno.

Anyone who played Super Mario RPG would say that Mallow is a better choice for smash than the puppet, at least Mallow had an arc throughout the game and would have a more unique moveset with his stretchy arms

I beat Super Mario RPG like twice and even though I don't mind Geno to appear in Smash Ultimate, it's more towards it's not really necessary for him to be in Smash Ultimate apart from him being not so much of a fan favorite.

It later turned out that the seller didn't even contribute most of the sales to charity (despite people screaming about the 100% of the sale go to charity whateve r horseshit that is) and when more information came out, the seller even threatened to sue some Reddit users and got into drama with Etika's brother and it was embarassing. It's so bad that even some Smash fans even realising why Nintendo didn't even want to support them to begin with.

The knowledge that Sakurai gave Geno a Mii costume without really talking about it having previously said Rex would have got in if things had not been confirmed by the time XC2 came out makes me happy.
