I've always found the cult of personality surrounding Trump fascinating. On the one hand, you've got the MAGAtards who see him as the God Emperor whose gonna bring America back to the 'good old days' while rescuing children from the basement of your local Dominos. On the other side, you've got SJWs who think Tangerine Hitler is recreating the third reich. I, personally, don't think that he's done anything worse than your garden variety Republican. The kind of person who starts the "he's a (insert -ism)" spiel most likely thinks that of anyone with a R next to their name anyways. He's a tactless, twitter obsessed, boomer Republican. Honestly, what makes him uniquely terrible?
My personal opinion on the matter is that he is socially worse than most republicans in recent decades as opposed to functionally worse.
What I mean by that is that the status quo was held mostly in balance with a slight lean towards more left-skewed ideals, mainly with the legalization of recreational drugs, gay marriage, and a more positive outlook on transsexuals and whatnot.
Then comes 2016 and you get a bunch of politispergs screaming about SJWs and how they’re destroying human civilization, actual neo nazis capitalizing on that and using it to turn what was an Internet subculture slap fight in to an actual large scale political standpoint, and this isn’t the first time stuff like this has happened and usually it dies out, except then Trump came along and decided to go all out with the “own the libs” platform and appeal directly to those politispergs that have never actually taken more than a cursory glance at how the political structures in the US function, and then proceeded to enable them and give them an almost religion-like higher calling to associate themselves with.
As a result, the social division and sheer autism of it all skyrocketed. There had always been conspiracy nuts and “nazis” and actual nazis, and SJWs, and “SJWs” and what the fuck else, but Trump, whether intentionally or through sheer coincidence, managed to become the focal point for a massive culture clash that most people embroiled in don’t even know what they’re fighting for.
Actual Right wingers want stability and economic progress and to have their rights not be trampled, but then spergs that align with the right wing take that and turn it in to “Trannies should all be gassed, repent faggots, the Democrats are all pedophiles and keep children sex slaves in the basement of a pizza parlor”. Then the people that are actually left wingers want scientific and social progress and for people regardless of identity or circumstance to be able to live their lives and be treated like everybody else, while spergs that align with the left turn that in to “Make all children be required to take HRT, everybody that voted for Trump is a literal nazi that wants to gas everybody that’s not aryan and Trump is actually Hitler”.
And so while the spergs on both camps might not be the majority, you can’t associate with either side without being immediately roped in with the spergs on that side, and Trump’s constant twitter tirades and rhetoric only reinforces that.
So no, he’s not the worst president we’ve ever had in terms of functionality or policy, but he is among the worst in terms of the impact he has had on the social aspects of the nation, and the consequences of that are going to be get for a long time.
