Trump Enslavement Syndrome - Orange man good. /r/The_Donald and any public demonstration of rabid pro-Trump enthusiasm in spite of all reason.

Oh, I don't think he has- and probably never had- a chance of being successful. But it's not for lack of trying, and his bullshit's opened a Pandora's Box in our electoral system that needs to get shut ASAP. His soft coup was retarded and failed, but now someone with more than half a brain can learn from his mistakes.
And now he's convincing his cult that the election was rigged instead of just accepting defeat like a man. He's literally the Chris Chan of presidents: a manbaby who was never told "no" and when he is told "no", he throws a temper tantrum like a toddler

I've always found the cult of personality surrounding Trump fascinating. On the one hand, you've got the MAGAtards who see him as the God Emperor whose gonna bring America back to the 'good old days' while rescuing children from the basement of your local Dominos. On the other side, you've got SJWs who think Tangerine Hitler is recreating the third reich. I, personally, don't think that he's done anything worse than your garden variety Republican. The kind of person who starts the "he's a (insert -ism)" spiel most likely thinks that of anything with a R next to their name anyways. He's a tactless, twitter obsessed, boomer Republican. Honestly, what makes him uniquely terrible?
He doesn’t hide shit that pst Republicans did, and so he has “given permission” for others to be that way. I think people see the uptick in white supremacy and erroneously think Trump caused it, when all he did was make those people feel safe.

Basically he shattered America’s rose colored glasses. I was always politically active, but I’m moreso now simply because it’s easier for me (white middle class/middle age lady) to see them.

If Dems are in any way intelligent they will start writing laws codifying what was once just accepted norms.

I always wondered which metrics the govt used to tell actual loonies from just your average poser. Surely they can’t knock on the door of every edge lord who types out a shifty manifesto and poses with their gun? Can they?

genuinely curious, if only because they all look like morons to me.
My assumption is we they use the obvious shit to draw out people that are even remotely close to being actual loons. They passively gather their identities and put them on a preliminary list which is assumed to have a ton of false positives. Still, it narrows it down a lot from 330 million. They keep a slightly closer eye on those who meet the profile, then wait for "strike two". My assumption is a lot meet strike two just based off of demographics (area, job, interests). Once it's narrowed down enough they can be more intensive and actually determine whether or not they're the real deal. Having a list also helps them check back up, as people who were once completely fine can later be radicalized. With the power of technology (and how much people willingly volunteer on the internet) I imagine it's quite easy to look closely on crazies without busting down doors.

That or I'm full of shit, and it's just a bored Gen-X'er trawling forums waiting for someone to establish a specific time, target, and place and calling Jim two floors up to send a subpoena to the server owner. Life is a lot more boring than we imagine.

My personal opinion on the matter is that he is socially worse than most republicans in recent decades as opposed to functionally worse.

What I mean by that is that the status quo was held mostly in balance with a slight lean towards more left-skewed ideals, mainly with the legalization of recreational drugs, gay marriage, and a more positive outlook on transsexuals and whatnot.

Then comes 2016 and you get a bunch of politispergs screaming about SJWs and how they’re destroying human civilization, actual neo nazis capitalizing on that and using it to turn what was an Internet subculture slap fight in to an actual large scale political standpoint, and this isn’t the first time stuff like this has happened and usually it dies out, except then Trump came along and decided to go all out with the “own the libs” platform and appeal directly to those politispergs that have never actually taken more than a cursory glance at how the political structures in the US function, and then proceeded to enable them and give them an almost religion-like higher calling to associate themselves with.

As a result, the social division and sheer autism of it all skyrocketed. There had always been conspiracy nuts and “nazis” and actual nazis, and SJWs, and “SJWs” and what the fuck else, but Trump, whether intentionally or through sheer coincidence, managed to become the focal point for a massive culture clash that most people embroiled in don’t even know what they’re fighting for.

Actual Right wingers want stability and economic progress and to have their rights not be trampled, but then spergs that align with the right wing take that and turn it in to “Trannies should all be gassed, repent faggots, the Democrats are all pedophiles and keep children sex slaves in the basement of a pizza parlor”. Then the people that are actually left wingers want scientific and social progress and for people regardless of identity or circumstance to be able to live their lives and be treated like everybody else, while spergs that align with the left turn that in to “Make all children be required to take HRT, everybody that voted for Trump is a literal nazi that wants to gas everybody that’s not aryan and Trump is actually Hitler”.

And so while the spergs on both camps might not be the majority, you can’t associate with either side without being immediately roped in with the spergs on that side, and Trump’s constant twitter tirades and rhetoric only reinforces that.

So no, he’s not the worst president we’ve ever had in terms of functionality or policy, but he is among the worst in terms of the impact he has had on the social aspects of the nation, and the consequences of that are going to be get for a long time.

I told you he made the dysfunction worse.

Now that Biden's going to be a somewhat normal president who I can simply ignore, I think a lot of this shit will die down... but I assume the Republicans will just get crazier.

What happens from here I think depends on whether or not the GOP establishment still has control or if the inmates are running the asylum.

Trump's still useful to the GOP establishment to drive turnout in 2022. I fully expect some kind of new totally-real voter fraud revelations to drop in Oct. 2022. After that, there's too much shit that can go wrong having Trump still around, like if he runs as an independent or joins the GOP primary and starts shitting all over the moderates again (rip Jeb!)

I miss when most people understood that a blue haired feminist whining about how air conditioning is sexist was just funny and not a sign of society's coming downfall. Trumpers sucked all the fun out of SJWs by pretending to be hardened soldiers in a legitimate war against them, and I can never forgive them for it.

That is naïve given Trump and also even Bernie Sanders to an extent have both fucked over the social aspects of politics. Trump has unintentionally brought out the right wing crazies as a part of legitimate political discussion while Sanders brought out the nutcases on the left by bringing new ideas of psuedo-socialism and relied on online activism on reddit for campaigning. Both these people regardless of what you think have objectively fucked over politics in the social sense and Biden or really anyone will fix that for awhile. Though to be quite honest this has been bubbling up for awhile internationally with more progressive ideas being pushed through (some good while some bad) and many other right wing politicians in different countries becoming more popular.

tl;dr The tards on both sides will keep acting like crazies especially with Biden inevitably not appointing any progressives and Trump's brand of populism being popularized among the right.

When a bunch of autists grow up on social media and think the internet is a perfect reflection of real life, anything that disrupts their echo chamber comes off as a sign of the end times.

Politics used to be important, but not "important". Everything's become this humorless high stakes zero sum game. It's almost on some gamergate shit: two gangs of morons blowing things of proportion while everyone else is minding theirs

They came for the gamers...the gamers

Political theorist Samuel P. Huntington was almost right. Except the culture war that eventually ended up breaking out is internal, internecine and extremely autistic.

It was all just fun and games in those halcyon years. Now it's just gay and aids

Seems like a problem of more people being always-online and scrambling for dumb shit that they can slap on their bio to describe themselves by. The sudden influx into politics of people who clearly do not actually fucking care about it but just want some asspats and cummies from their side of the aisle is a frustrating thing for those of us that previously got to enjoy the shit-flinging circus a little more sensibly.

Ironically, it’s only the terminally online radical socialist LARPers who are upset with Biden. Any leftist who actually follows this shit from a historical perspective knew from the beginning that there was no chance of Biden appointing anyone who’s actually progressive. Just look at his history.

Edit: the closest thing to progressive that may happen is that Elizabeth “ex-Republican and vocal lover of capitalism” Warren gets appointed to some position where she won’t do anything, which of course will be decried as literal communism by the right if it does happen.
