47 workers test positive for Covid in Uganda despite Chinese vaccine

Despite being inoculated with China's vaunted coronavirus vaccines, 47 Chinese workers in Uganda have been diagnosed with the virus, raising questions about the efficacy of the China-made products.

Back in July, far before clinical trials had been completed (currently in Phase Three), two candidates by Sinopharm's subsidiary China National Biotec Group Company Limited (CNBG) and one by Sinovac Biotech SVA.O were given the green light to be injected into "essential workers" as part of an emergency use program that began that month. As of November, the experimental vaccines had been administered to one million people in China.

The recipients of the vaccines have included Chinese citizens preparing to travel overseas, including diplomats, students, and at least 56,000 construction workers from state-run enterprises. In November, Reuters cited Sinopharm as boasting that none of its vaccine recipients who went abroad had been infected.
However, the Chinese Embassy in Uganda on Dec. 5 announced that an Indian company in Uganda reported 47 Chinese citizens working for the firm had tested positive for COVID-19. It stated the majority of the cases were asymptomatic, but "a minority" experienced symptoms of the virus, including fever, cough, fatigue, and diarrhea.

The embassy reminded overseas Chinese in Uganda and Chinese-funded institutions in Uganda to take all necessary measures to prevent cluster infections. Given that the workers had been recently dispatched from China, they should have received one of the three experimental vaccines in advance.

The fact that 47 workers in one company tested positive for the virus and an undisclosed number exhibited symptoms casts doubts on the efficacy of the experimental Chinese vaccines. Although the Chinese biotech industry claims that large-scale vaccinations have been carried out in accordance with emergency use regulations and are safe and effective, experts point out that the very low "official" rate of coronavirus infections in China after May and lack of data on those vaccinated fail to support these assertions.

During an interview in August, Sinopharm Group Chairman Liu Jingzhen (劉敬楨) declared that Chinese-made vaccines will be available by the end of the year. He claimed that one dose would only cost a few hundred Chinese yuan and would be 100 percent effective; in comparison, efficacy rates of the candidates by Pfizer, Moderna, and Astra Zeneca in Phase Three trials are 95 percent, 94.5 percent, 70 percent, respectively.
As news reports begin to spread about the effectiveness of the three Western vaccines, five Chinese vaccine candidates have entered Phase Three human clinical trials. In response, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Chinese epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan (鍾南山) have been trying to regain global attention by praising the efficacy of their domestically produced vaccines.

The latest outbreak among Chinese workers raises questions about both the ability of the Chinese vaccines to prevent transmission of the disease but also the development of symptoms.

Tourists NOT WELCOME in China:

China bans 105 apps including TripAdvisor

China has removed 105 apps from its app stores as part of a campaign to get rid of content related to pornography, prostitution, gambling and violence.

Most of the banned apps are Chinese but US travel app TripAdvisor is also included on the list.
According to the Cyberspace Administration of China, all apps violated one of three cyber-laws, although it did not provide details.
It comes as a second US court rules against the planned ban on TikTok.

US district judge Carl Nichols said President Trump over-stepped his authority when attempting to ban the Chinese video-sharing app on security grounds. He is the second judge to rule in favour of TikTok.
The majority of apps in the latest crackdown from Beijing are domestic ones, with authorities saying the ban was in response to content the public "deemed offensive".

It is unclear why TripAdvisor has been banned. The BBC has contacted the firm for a comment but has not yet received a response.
Tensions between the US and China have been increasingly played out in cyber-space over recent months.
When the TikTok ban was announced by President Trump in the summer, the Chinese authorities accused the US of bullying tactics and said it would take "necessary measures" to safeguard the interests of Chinese companies.
The internet remains heavily regulated in the country with US firms Google, Facebook and Twitter all blocked.

Our greatest allies are at it again! You guys might've seen Professor Di Dongsheng's speech about China influencing the US (This video includes the part the media edited out):

You guys are really scraping the bottom of the barrel if you're posting China in Focus, Taiwannews and Styx... like it's not even that hard to find credible anti-China sources that aren't Falun Gong nutters, Bannon stooges, or shitty tabloids that believe in garbage like Trump's election fraud conspiracies, how Coronavirus is a bio-weapon, or that the Three Gorges Dam is going to break any day now!

Feel free to suggest alternatives. It does feel like all of the sources of mainland-centric news (so not from general sources like the NYT or whatever) have a bias in one direction or the other eitherbubbling under the surface or just hanging out there in the open.

I don't know why you need sources that specifically focus on the Mainland, if something remotely interesting happens, you're bound to find it in mainstream news. Sites like Taiwannews are pretty much tabloids that are just cashing in on anti-Chinese sentiments that are popular in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, even the average Redditor could figure it out. These places were consistently wrong when reporting on the Coronavirus earlier this year.

You can find detailed criticisms on China like https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/10/09/china-belt-and-road-initiative-mess-not-master-plan/ without relying on tabloids, Falun Gong propaganda, or gamergate has-beens that jumped from the anti-sjw train onto the anti-China train.

I actually get most of my news from the Farms because I'd trust HHH and APC bringing me (heavy air quotes) "left wing" views over Brian Stelter, Wolf Blitzer, Rachel Maddow, Don "Pussy Or Dick" Lemon, et al

I mean, you're free to do what you want, but I don't exactly trust a site compromised mostly of early 20-somethings monitoring and laughing at trannies and furries to be my main source of international news.

Go Away, CCP shill.

The People's Republic of China is an evil shithole worse than Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union combined and Xi Jinping is a petty little bitch who looks like Winnie the Pooh.

Taiwan and the KMT are the rightful government of China, Falun Gong is less insane and unhinged than the principles of Maoism, and the CCP's regime in the mainland is illegitimate.

Also, thanks for COVID-19, you pretentious commie fuckwads. Commie Punks Fuck Off!!!
