A close family friend of my folks was high up at the IRS. The stories are exactly what you'd expect. People coming into audits with 100 pages they printed off wingnut.freedom.biz ready to debate their way out of paying taxes, fat rednecks showing up in all camo to the lobby in some autistic protest until they find out the hard way the FBI has shared office space in the building, guys who declared their rural abode a sovereign nation, etc. He was a pretty intimidating guy, two tours in Nam so they always sent him to deal with the hard asses. I always pry him for new wingnut stories when I see him. My favorite so far is the guy who told them something to the effect of "if the government wants to cease my property they are welcome to try," with a threatening tone then dude takes out his planner flips through a few pages and is like, "okay is next Thursday at noon good?" Two days later the check showed up and the guy wrote "fuck you [name]" in the memo spot. All bark these guys.

To be fair a rich guy that cheats on his wife is pretty much a misdeameanor. Between then and Feb. 2020, he flip-flopped between not acknowledging it, downplaying Rona's severity, and calling it a hoax, which a portion of his base still do to this day, despite both Trump and Rudi getting it. In March he admitted it was real and shut down international travel. He let the states decide how to handle a now necessitated lockdown and still bitched he felt they were taking too long to reopen after only a couple months.
