Large explosion, buildings damaged in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A large explosion was reported in downtown Nashville early Christmas morning.
The explosion happened in the area of Second Avenue and Broadway near Commerce Street occurred around 6:30 am Friday. Heavy black smoke can be seen rising above the affected area.

The Metro Nashville Office of Emergency Management told News 2 a parked RV exploded and caused damage to several buildings. They said crews are currently assessing the damage but no injuries have been reported. Officials with the OEM also reported foul play was not suspected at this time.

There was a large police presence in this area along with fire crews. News 2 has reached out to Metro Police and The Fire Department to learn more.

Video shows the police are doing a search of the POI's property. I wonder if Anthony Quinn Warner was the one inside the RV, the cops haven't had any trouble getting into his house it looks like.

It'll depend on what they find in the house, maybe there's a suicide note. The fact that cops haven't had any trouble getting inside makes me feel like maybe this was at least partially a suicide. call me dumb but what are your sources for this info? the note and that the at&t building took interior damage from the explosion other than flooding? from the information i gathered the RV was too far away to have done any internal damage from the explosion to the at&t building even if it wasn't a fortress but it burst a water main. haven't seen anything about a note yet though please share

It didn’t even knock out the AT&T service initially. That happened several hours later, probably from the fire and flooding since crews couldn’t get too close due to the situation.

Neat to see my area in the news but the fact the internet knock out is making stores unable to to use there registers is kinda scary. Most places are taking cash but some places like target have people standing in front of the building telling people they can look but not buy anything. I don’t know what’s worse a store of employees being paid to do literal nothing or the fact there was busy as normal.

If it’s like key comms buildings in other locations it will be hardened to a degree against explosion. Perhaps flood damage was the point. I think the comms building was the target. One of the things Snowdon exposed was how many AT/T locations had NSA implants in them. Friend fairly near there is saying 911 was affected as well - is that true? If so it’s knocked out a piece of infrastructure and shown that node is vulnerable.

It sure did. It also took out air traffic control and landlines. It even knocked out 911 in most of of Kentucky. Every AT&T service in those areas just turned off until some time this morning. Northern Alabama and Georgia also took smaller hits.

You don't usually see this kind of network crumbling outside of a massive hurricane aftermath, when most people have no electricity anyway.

It's terrifying how we rely so much on the internet and connectivity nowadays yet our internet services seem to be getting more fragile than ever. Like it would be bad but tolerable if it just shut down phone and internet service, but the fact this shut down so much more is worrying. Imagine if you had a team of people doing this 9/11 style the sort of chaos that would ensue. They want all of our society to be online and connected yet it's so easy for any dedicated actor to disconnect people.
