After successfully escaping Charlottesville and the machinations of Christina, the wiley temptress, they flee to Pennsylvania where they take shelter in the Nick Bate's Motel. But the proprietor is a fecal fanatic and staying too long at the motel causes Holden to become infected with toxoplasmosis which affects his mind, causing him to go insane and forget his love, Thonis.

Thonis is forced to leave Holden in a mental institution where he behaves like he did before experiencing Thonis's healing, loving ministrations. Thonis is heartbroken, but forever changed by his time with Holden.

Nice bittersweet, tragic ending for the indie cred.

Sorry for the double post, but I have an idea for an "alternate" ending. Thonis boards a train at a station called "Colebrookdale" after leaving holden at an institution....
