Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

The hate for Cyberpunk seems really overdone, I’ve been playing it on my PS4 pro and while it does crash every few hours and there’s a couple of minor bugs it’s a really fun game with both combat or stealth and the story and characters are also great.

I like that the game gives you different options which have different outcomes, either obvious ones (Pacifist vs kill everyone in the building) or occasionally sort of like Deus Ex where the game/a character tells you to do something but there’s another option.

Their attitude was "dont let them see the game". CDPR knew the current gen ports were atrocious, and as such reviewers were sent the PC version to review. The console version was unlocked an hour before release, obviously not enough time to write a review, and given the day 1 patch most wouldnt be able to even open the game. Incidentally, you can refund a pre order from sony or MS as long as the download for the game hasnt started yet. CDPR unlocked the console review version right as the downloads started. At that point their 10+ million consoles sales were locked, no more refunds for you!

It was a scummy tactic used to ensure they didnt lose any customers to the far harsher reviews that would have come with the console versions. The PS4 version is terrible, but the xbox one version is completely unplayable. The plan worked, right up until sony delisted the game and MS started processing refunds. CDPR has been backpedaling promising "fixes" ever since, and talking up refunds to save face.

As for the crunch time, the truth is likely in the middle. Yes they got paid, yes they got their bonuses. That does not mean the workplace didnt turn toxic during this time. Remember, CDPR drove away the entire original polish dev team, and the new team behind CP2077 is not beholden to Polish worker laws. Clearly there was more then a "little crunch" going on.

Jim is a laughable SJW manbaby, but many people forget it isnt the SJWs that got him popular. He was willing to attack the industry for its shady practices. He was one of many that took the industry tot task over lootboxes, overt monetization, and predatory game systems designed to get you to spend money on microtransactions in full priced games. Many ask why he bitches so much over garbage on steam, but forget that when Sterling originally bitched, steam didnt have the modern recommended system. It was based solely on clicks, and the garbage from the likes of digital homicide took up the home page for most people. The response from people like jim convinced valve to fix that with the current system, which works much better. He beat that dead horse, but at one point it was legit criticism. Same with greenlight, he beat it, but greenlight had multiple flaws that trash devs took advantage of to shovel asset flips onto the store while legit good games got buried.

And while Jim goes uber autistic over crunch time, it doesnt change the fact that crunch time is absolutely abused in the industry, made possible by a constant stream of new naive workers to replace them.
It really is sad that people pay more attention to the low hanging fruit than the actual accomplishments he’s done over the years. It’s sad even for this site.

You have over 2000 posts here. On a lolcow site, not a pat on the back site.

Jim used to be a source of great games criticism, his written reviews were almost always fantastic, and his podcasts were pretty funny. But that was then and now he’s a troon, we’re not autobiographers but if you go through the thread you’ll see people reference his good work when relevant.

I’ve never been a fan of Jim (didn't hate him just didn't watch his shit). I had heard of the legal shit he went through when he was reviewing a scummy stream game company and I respected that when I heard of it (pretroon Jim), I also enjoyed playing the escapists (when I still had it). I still respect some of the stances pretroon Jim had.

Everybody knows you mean pre-troon Jim because he stopped making sense a while before he hit post-troon stage.

i'mma be real with you chief, as far as bad games go, it's really not one. needed another year in development to iron out bugs? probably. realistically speaking, what open world game doesn't? they're all buggy garbage heaps, but cyberpunk actually had some pretty solid gameplay and a great story.

it was also number 5 on projared's best of the year (and number 2 on his worst of the year), which is a hell of a lot more fair of a shake.

He doesn't stand for much anymore does he? :(
Well not for long anyway. I imagine each cut away in his videos from him to something else is him taking a 10 minute rest.

But no, Sterling doesn't stand for anything but what the troon mob will give him asspats for, if tomorrow it became popular in troon circles to promote more abortion clinics in heavily black neighborhoods to fulfill Sangers dream he'd get right on that, then start calling out people who had those views the moment it became unfashionable.

In this way Sterling is very much like MovieBlob and HairOnHead.

2077 on a decent rig is pretty fun and enjoyable.
That's half the problem though, innit? You shouldn't have to own the kind of hardware lusted after by people who unironically call their computer a 'rig' in order to enjoy a game. Admittedly they shouldn't have bothered with last-gen consoles, but even my 'deck' (see, I really like cyberpunk) is wheezing under the strain, and it's by no means underpowered.

's just an unfinished game. Shame, as I for one was riding the hype train for eight years (2020 is my favourite pen and paper RPG, sort of thing.)

I just suspect a lot of these poors will come out of the wood work in 2 years telling us how much of a "hidden gem" 2077 is now that they own Ps5/Series X that can run it properly.
essentially the problem, and the false advertising on the state of the last gen systems is definitely something they should get dragged for.

it downscales ok for older hardware but we're still talking 30-50 FPS, the optimization is pretty shit. my 1080 is struggling but that's in part due to the fact i play at 1440. like, again, the game absolutely needed more time, but what is there is pretty damn good. it's not like fallout 76 where it was near unplayable and had next to nothing in it at launch.

still wouldn't necessarily recommend people buying it just yet unless they're pretty strong fans of cyberpunk or have a solid pc, but.

That top 10 was exactly to be expected.

Indie games that don't matter.

Shit that actively pertains to Jim's ego

Shit that actively pertains to Jim's agenda.

You can literally boil it down to a formula. Shit indie game + Shitty triple A title multiplied by controversial game du jour that everyone's talking about added to some shit a corporation's done. It's so fucking boring listening to him witter on about the same shit day in and day out.

Also Jim you can cry foul at what Ubisoft has done but you seem to be a pretty big customer to some of the worst confectioner companies.
