In most states, age of consent isn't even 18; it usually runs from 16-18 (or lower with parental consent).

As far as Federal law goes though, I believe that 18 is the age of consent regarding pornographic material. (This could lead to some odd situation, such as it being legal in a state for an 18 and a 16-year old to get married or have sex, but it being illegal for the 18 year old to possess a nude picture of his 16-year old wife/girlfriend).

Obviously though, none of this has any bearing on the OP or the freaks (e.x. Marco Polo) white-knighting self-identified pedophiles and child-rapists in this thread.

Sure, there are pedophiles on every side, but movements to try to make pedophilia a "protected sexual identity" or have pedophiles classified as "sexual minorities", or abolish age of consent for being an "oppressive social construct" - etc - is pretty much the exclusive realm of the far-left (e.x. NAMBLA and LGBT organizations like ILGA which accepted NAMBLA as a member).

I would counterargue that those people are on a fringe of a fringe and are more co-opting Left-Wing language for their own cause without any major acceptance. NAMBLA was only part of the ILGA because the ILGA had to take whoever they could fucking get given the broader social context (this is before the first wave of the gay rights movement): once they started achieving mainstream status and were (very rightfully) censured and attacked for having groups like NAMBLA on their rolls, they (very rightfully) kicked them to the curb because they could pick and choose their allies now. I would say this is much like how, right now, you have people championing for the overlooked low-income members of White America and believe that society is too biased towards non-whites having to share a tend with methheads who want to string every minority member and homosexual up from lamp-posts; if you are a small counterculture group, you can't pick and choose allies.
Furthermore, on the other side of the aisle, you see people like... Nathan Larson, who adopts the language of Right-Wing Libertarianism to argue for his inalienable right to sodomize children, and I believe I saw a few of the edgy lunatics on the periphery of the "hard" alt-right use the language of Right-Wing Traditionalism to argue for pedophilia based on the Greek institution of pedastry.

On a scale of 1 to 10, their attractiveness rating is somewhere around -10 to the 100th power.
