I'm just pretending I'm the protagonist in Old Boy. Sharpening my mind, milking my alone time as much as I hate it.
I haven't been in this thread in a minute. All of it is so depressing. I don't get any of this. I just want to scream at people turn off the fucking news and FB feed. I told my family at Christmas that I spent the summer grieving the past- concerts, parties, hugs and touching, travel, etc. That I had come to a place of acceptance. My world was smaller and duller, but it was still mine, I would still push on and enjoy what I could. They all looked at me like I was nuts. "Oh come on, this will be over soon." I don't know how they convince themselves. It was "going to be over soon" almost a year ago. A year of health and youth, nearly everyone in the western world gave that sacrifice. Literally what the fuck. 1/75th of a lifetime just incinerated for no fucking reason.
I have hospital workers in my family out the wazoo and this is what I know. Yes, the hospitals are overwhelmed. Why? If a staff member contracts covid they and other staff members have to quarantine for two weeks. Many workers are quitting because they have to watch a child or they hate the PPE. The hospitals are overwhelmed BECAUSE of the restrictions creating staff deficits. It's so insane. The hospital they work at still has 150 beds left. Just no staff to care for the patients that could be there. Bat shit.

I haven't contracted the coof, or at least I don't think I have, but I've been sent home to self isolate three times because I was a close contact of someone who did.
Hospital ICUs are not overwhelmed with Covid patients. Back in March and April there was a genuine issue but only because patients were being intubated WAY too often (which was leading to higher mortality rates). Thankfully tubing Covid patients is being done a lot less.
The same is true in nursing homes. Staff being sent home to self isolate leading to nursing home patients being abandoned and neglected. Unfortunately that's still happening and it's a fucking disgrace.

The World Health Organization reports a mortality rate of 0.05% in the under 70s. That includes fat diabetics and the chronically unwell. cancer patients and the like.
The ONLY reason that the ZOMG! fear mongering is effective is due to the ridiculous way Covid deaths are being counted, anyone with a positive test who subsequently dies for any reason is counted, and the high mortality rates in nursing homes.
Covid-19 is twice as bad as the seasonal flu, maybe. It's a lot less deadly than the Hong Kong flu that appeared in the late 1960's.
In Africa, in fact in most non western countries that have younger populations and not as many fat people, it's a literal nothing burger. There are no reasons related to public health that require spending tens of billions on mass vaccinations.
I will not be getting vaccinated. The mRNA vaccines have not been tested on a mass scale, they're highly experimental and they carry the risk of triggering unexpected immune responses.
Given that Covid is endemic, the WHO estimates that 2 billion people globally have now contracted the virus, vaccination will become moot as mass T-cell immunity kicks in and we'll continue to see reduction in mortality rates.

The Chinese were legitimately worried early on that they were dealing with SARS part 2. As the pandemic progressed in Wuhan they quickly worked out that it was nothing of the sort and abandoned their lockdowns.
The Chinese Communist Party is a lot of things but stupid isn't one of them. They've used the Covid fear mongering to economically cripple their geopolitical enemies, and it's been a massive success from their perspective.

Got a source on that one? It's been a while since I checked but the estimate of actual cases versus confirmed cases is something like 5-10x higher which shouldn't equal 2 billion.

Back in October they estimated 10% of the global population had already been infected
They estimate greater than 20 times more people have contracted the virus than positive tests, with around 84 million positive tests as of now.
Of course this is an estimate but given that most of the world doesn't engage in the insane mass PCR testing we see in the west and that even in developed countries for every positive test there will be 5 to 6 times more actual cases, the WHO estimate seems pretty reasonable.
Anyway to put that into perspective a 100 million people in the United States may already have contracted the coof.

Upon determining by clear and convincing evidence that the health of others is or may be endangered by a case, contact or carrier, or suspected case, contact or carrier of a contagious disease that, in the opinion of the governor, after consultation with the commissioner, may pose an imminent and significant threat to the public health resulting in severe morbidity or high mortality, the governor or his or her delegee, including, but not limited to the commissioner or the heads of local health departments, may order the removal and/or detention of such a person or of a group of such persons by issuing a single order, identifying such persons either by name or by a reasonably specific description of the individuals or group being detained.
