Women were never "kept in ignorance". Women have always had an active part in society and had to pull their weight as much as men did. The feminist history where women were kept in little cages and only let out to get pregnant is bullshit. Even if you want to propose it is true you have to limit that to only the elites, the average working family of any era would have women and men living very similar lives and very similar levels of ignorance. The men would do the heavy lifting but the women had their own chores keeping them busy

Young women shouldn't be allowed to be alone with a man. In the past pregnancy was much more dangerous and risked killing her or leaving the family with an increased burden and no one to take responsibility.
