The thing that bothers me about discussions regarding cultural appropriation is that you can’t be a white person interested in a non-white culture anymore without some neckbeard screeching at you about how you’re literally murdering people, or some minority with a chip on their shoulder ranting about how you’re directly responsible for the loss of their people’s land. Like, you guys are the reason that people get turned off of learning about other cultures — you chase people away.

"Cultural appropriation" really doesn't matter unless it's insulting or plays into stereotypes. Old comics like Ronin, and by extension derivative work such as other comics, animation, and games like TMNT, Samurai Jack, or Furi which all take inspiration from Ronin, could be described as "appropriation." Even better, how about the term "spaghetti western?" Where do you think that came from? Italian film styles started to influence American film and vice-versa. Are films from that era not art because of that? Thing is, nobody cares about "appropriation" because there isn't an arbiter for culture, and the people who claim to be one seem to not even have a surface-level understanding of art. Artists from every background take inspiration from culture, doesn't matter who or where.

On the flip side, things like blackface which Louis cites are just racial stereotypes, not appropriation. He's inadvertently claimed that the racism presented in minstrel shows were legitimate when he says they're appropriation of black culture because he's an idiot.

Millennials, as a generation, range from ~1982 to ~1995. The years are still a bit sketchy, but the name comes from "coming of age with the turn of the millennium." The oldest members are approaching 40.

I theorize that Lou genuinely believes, each and every time, that "this time is gonna be the time that it's different.
