I've been replaying KOTOR 2 lately and I think i finally understand another lazy reason why Lilly's Star Wars fic continues to paint Kylo and Snoke's ilk as just Dark Jedi while Alaina is the 'true sith'.

See, in Kotor 2 the events of the first game are referred to as the 'Jedi Civil War' despite Malak and his forces being treated a Sith and all that. This is because of a few retcons in the second game (instead of Revan seeking to conquer the galaxy, it was now that he simply wanted to show the flaws of the Jedi Council's teachings) as well this general theme of presenting how the galaxy outside of the jedi and Sith view this conflict, they don't see much of a difference, they just see two sects of one religion warring for dominance. Generally, the 'Sith' in Kotor 1 are all jedi who joined Revan's campaign against the Mandalorians and fell to the dark side, none of them are really traditional Sith that the jedi fought before. And also, this was set up for what would have been Kotor 3 where you'd get to meet the 'true sith empire' who would allegedly have more lovecraftian elements to them.

What I'm saying is that this is another instance of Lilly looking at the surface level of a very heavy and nuanced topic in Kotor 2 and ripping it out for her fic. She uses it to instead try and make her OC look more elite, degrade Kylo and come off as edgy because she clearly doesn't understand the concept she's writing about.

Exactly. Even if everything Lily said about Lizzy is 100% true, this would still leave her as the person who knowingly indulged and enabled these unhealthy behaviors in her partner for years.
