Candycore is or was an actual aesthetic... thing. I think. A sort of ironically pastel goth subculture with a lot of roots in lolita fashion and nostalgia for stuff only 90s kids will remember. It largely involved wearing a lot of pastels and like, candy necklaces and ring pops and stuff? It later devolved into Tumblr-style infantilization and degeneracy but I don't think it started there.

Anyway, it is or was an actual thing and Labelle deciding to name the comic after the trend is a) stupid because it has nothing to do with it, and b) shows his age yet again because, as said, a lot of "candycore" is rooted in nostalgia for things he usually pretends he should be too young to know about.

Wouldn’t surprise me. He’s always had a weird fixation on childhood and the idea of being a child - AM has always felt uncomfortable for that very reason. Stephie and Ciel give this vibe of being what Labelle wants to be: children but able to engage in adult discourse and activities (remember Ciel’s “We had a sex!” strip?).

Labelle has spent his entire career playing down his age and now he’s reached the stage where he simply cannot deny the ageing process, the idea that he is an adult. Anyone who sees him in real life knows how old he is and any long-term follower knows he’s not in his early twenties.

It makes a certain amount of sense that he’d retreat even further into the fantasy in response. Ultimately, this is what happens when you don’t monitor your 13-year-old son online and he gets molested.

Does a great job on showing how ugly horse-piss pill titties look and the jacket looks like fat rolls. Bonus for the bdsm-style choker. Really represents what the average tranny looks like if only the face was more mannish.
These 4-panel tranny comics always feel like they're only 4-panels for the sake of being 4-panels. There's never any deeper reading to them than the surface level, it's blank/minimal backgrounds with a character slapped in the middle.

It's telling that "pretty" is all he aspired to. It's not "look how happy we are now!", "look how we can have our life together and got through dysphoria!" or even a pro-trans "look we can be our true and honest self!" Nah it's just "hey bro we're a super hot chick now, niiiice". If that's all he values, how will he feel when he starts getting old and looks like (at best) an old lady instead of a pretty woman? Troon goals are always stupid. Their long term goals are never mastering a skill, moving up in a career, expanding their world view, etc., it's always "I want to dump a fuckload of money in the hopes I'll look like a pretty woman".
