Still, I doubt the GOP Establishment will be as willing to prostrate themselves to the Orange Man after the events of 1/6.

A random thought, but I have to wonder what the history books of the future will have to say about this day. I wonder if future generations will learn about the post 2020-election freakout, and about ... whatever the fuck that pathetic attempted revolution is. Will there be some documentaries about this event in a few decades?
One thing is almost certain, after this day, I think Trump's reputation is completely and irreparably destroyed, he will go down in history as that one idiot who allowed whatever the fuck this was to happen.

I should be laughing at such a shitshow, but I'm not.

I hate everyone involved with this. The protestors/rioters believe in actual retarded conspiracy theories and are willing to do something as crazy as storming the capitol building because of it. The A&Hers are unironically drooling in agreement with the riots because GLOBOHOMO and GAMERGATE FORCED THEIR HAND. Middle class white people I know are going THIS IS GUN VIOLENCE. And like some of the more reasonable comments have said, by virtue of the government seemingly allowing this to happen, this whole situation is a big silver platter to any lawmaker that wants to curtail civil liberties because of DANGEROUS ONLINE PROPAGANDA. And they'll have plenty of support because every lawmaker just got the shit scared out of them by a tangible threat.

They shouldn't have been able to get within 50 feet of the doors of the building.

Even if there will be arrests most will be released quickly or will only face minimal repercussions. There is no habit in US history for long jail terms for political offences except for small groups or individuals. So while a handfull of guys might get arrested and locked up for a long time anything above 60 and most are released with a fine if that.Its obvious that the group here is way above 50-60 guys. Meaning no court has the desire to prosecute this many at one time for politically motivated crimes. Its actually the main reason the US survived it almost never gave long jail terms for such offences to large numbers.

We might have some reckoning, but the vast majority of people involved in this aren't going to suffer any real consequences. The politicians might lose their clout with their rational colleagues and might get voted out of office in the next election, but they won't go to jail. Their rational colleagues are more interested in just trying to get along and by definition if they can win their elections then they probably aren't worth antagonizing too much.
There were simply too many goons for most of them to be held accountable, even if the government had the resources to actually go after them all and lock them up they wouldn't do it because of optics. In 30-40 years a lot of these people (or their children) will still be showing off their pictures of when they stormed the Capitol.
Some people will be arrested. That buffalo LARPer will, people who were clearly, undeniably recorded committing sedition, but most people will just be able to go on with their lives as if they weren't violent thugs willing who were involved in the Cringe Putsch, it'll just be a funny story to them.
Think about all the literal Totenkopfverbände guards who were allowed to get their persilscheine. Think about the "rehabilitated" Confederates who started the KKK. How many people actually were prosecuted for lynchings? As much as I loathe these seditionists this isn't comparable to those, but history shows us over and over again that if you're part of a large enough mob and you don't stick your neck out you probably won't suffer any sort of consequences for the crimes that you took part in.
