Trump Enslavement Syndrome - Orange man good. /r/The_Donald and any public demonstration of rabid pro-Trump enthusiasm in spite of all reason.

We might have some reckoning, but the vast majority of people involved in this aren't going to suffer any real consequences. The politicians might lose their clout with their rational colleagues and might get voted out of office in the next election, but they won't go to jail. Their rational colleagues are more interested in just trying to get along and by definition if they can win their elections then they probably aren't worth antagonizing too much.
There were simply too many goons for most of them to be held accountable, even if the government had the resources to actually go after them all and lock them up they wouldn't do it because of optics. In 30-40 years a lot of these people (or their children) will still be showing off their pictures of when they stormed the Capitol.
Some people will be arrested. That buffalo LARPer will, people who were clearly, undeniably recorded committing sedition, but most people will just be able to go on with their lives as if they weren't violent thugs willing who were involved in the Cringe Putsch, it'll just be a funny story to them.
Think about all the literal Totenkopfverbände guards who were allowed to get their persilscheine. Think about the "rehabilitated" Confederates who started the KKK. How many people actually were prosecuted for lynchings? As much as I loathe these seditionists this isn't comparable to those, but history shows us over and over again that if you're part of a large enough mob and you don't stick your neck out you probably won't suffer any sort of consequences for the crimes that you took part in.
There is a certain logic to this. If you lock up too many for political crimes then you not only create resentment for some reason getting locked up for politics gets people more riled up than other crimes and from there violent revenge. But you also create an appetite among law enforcement to start locking up folk for politics in large numbers. Its a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.

Not to put a tinfoil hat on, but I am 90% sure that the cops supported these dipshits. I mean, they spent the entirety of last year shooting peoples eyes out, assaulting the press, smashing peoples skulls, throwing insane amounts of teargas, I could go on and on...
And now, they practically don't give a fuck. I am not supporting Antifa, but I can see the hypocrisy. I bet that if the roles were reversed, the rioters wouldn't have even made it to the front door, let alone be able to do half of the shit these lunatics did.

"Man in critical condition after climbing and falling from scaffolding at US Capitol

From CNN's Noah Gray

A 24-year-old male who was climbing the scaffolding on the west front of the US Capitol building fell more than 30 feet.
He is being taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to a source familiar. "

LMAO good

I understand why we couldn't string up all the Confederates and Nazis, but it still really fucking sucks. And it's not just because of political repercussions, there's also the practical considerations, these people fulfill some sort of role in their community. For most people their role is resident nutjob, but some of them have families, some of them have important jobs, and some communities are just so wrapped up in the Tump cult that the community as a whole would be decimated by arresting the seditionists. There are plenty of good reasons for not going after every motherfucker who did this, but it will still always bug me.

To be fair, time and preparation also play a role here. If this putsch went on for more than a few hours then I'd like to think that they would have been put down harder than the Lafayette protesters, but they're hesitant to jump in and escalate these sorts of things (even if it quickly leads to complete dissolution of the riots) if they think it will die down on its own without putting them at risk.

How many people died from the George Floyd riots? We should keep a scoreboard.
Honestly its difficult to know. Several dozen officially but there's a caveat. Murders skyrocketed once the riots started in multiple cities. If we add the extra-murders that can be assumed to not have happened outside of riots its possible the death toll is in the hundreds??Of course you need to factor in covid but even then there was a sizeable surge in murders once the riots began outside of deaths tied directly to the riots.Long story short no covid no George Floyd no pretty much all of this.

Jesus Christ, the other thread (Trump March thread) is defending this on the grounds that “Antifa has been rioting for months, destroying tons of property”. This is literal delusion.

I shouldn’t be amazed anymore but here we are.
It's almost as if storming the seat of government has greater consequences.
