I'd agree. The real cause of all of that was Rome growing too big and absorbing so many "Romanized" non-Romans. The system of the Republic just couldn't handle it. It was a system made for a City-State and a people with a very specific system, and it worked until all of that changed. That's a lot like America, our system is actually pretty good, but it was designed for a different people than we are now, and 2020 very much demonstrated that current America isn't capable of making that system work any more. The Founders and their generation would have been running Governors out of their states on rails after tarring and feathering them for some of the shit they've pulled this year.

True, I wasn't sticking too close to what they actually did, but how I felt their roles would be. Sulla didn't really fix the Republic either, he even contributed to some of the future problems, but he did kick the can down the road. It's why they eventually ended up with Caesar. I always figured the next figure after Trump would be the one to "fix" things.
