Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

Got around to listening to the Sterling worst of 2020 video. You can feel how much he hates video games now.

Violently protective fans
I almost forgot about the Ubisoft wars of 2020. :semperfidelis:
[Ubisoft] used a BLM-like emblem and portrayed such movements as funded by a cabal of shadowy globalists.
Holy fuck.. I need to buy more Ubisoft games.
which, yes, that is a far-right anti-semitic conspiracy theory
You dare to criticize globalists elites? What are you, anti-semitic?

It doesn't look like a bad list tbh.

I don't really want to play open world games anymore, and turn based RPGs aren't really my thing but Streets of Rage and Hades looked pretty good, Jim's someone else's gameplay in the video looked cool and made me want to check it out.

What's sad is that Jim just can't stop himself from sperging about crunch or trannyism in every video, even this one, which had the potential to be really positive. Instead it hammered home Null's point about how transparently he hates games with the Streets of Rage section, going on about how that game was rare because he wanted to play it, as opposed to playing a game 'for as long as he has to'.

Edit: I bought Hades, it's actually pretty good
I would have thought Streets of Rage 4 would be far too problematic? Not only do the ladies wear revealing outfits and are conventionally attractive, but one of them is a dominatrix who whips her minions to give them extra strength

SoR4 is so unproblematic they have an option to replace the chicken health pickup with salads/other vegan options. Also both of the new characters are sassy and black.

I'm not making this up.

I've never heard of Ikenfell, so I punched it into Steam, and, well, it's this:

Not very many reviews, graphics are ugly pixel art, cast is your usual woke crew consisting of a white girl leader and a couple of token negros, to prove that they do not secretly hate niggers, as they always have to do. Even the reviews on Steam don't mention any actual detail about the game, and just come off as generic "signal boosting" reviews from useful idiots who don't care so much about the game as they do pushing yet another product from the alphabet people.

And then the other four games are ones that appear on every other YouTuber's best-of-2020 list. Whoopie.
I guess it's possible he saw it on Game Pass. It was promoted on that decently.

This just looks like trans bait
Kinda on the money. The reviews for the game are just odd. They all just go "owee best game <9 soundtrack producers".

Also, apparently you can just skip all combat, if the game has too much game for you. The creator is a :optimistic:*they* and happens to be pretty far-left in general.

Also also, the game is "very popular on gamepass" according to said creator, while failing badly on switch.

My guess is that jim indeed saw it on gamepass and just used this as an opportunity to virtue signal.

If your game is popular on a fucking free game sub system, while it bombing on a MOTHERFUCKING SWITCH of all fucking system, then you shouldn't be gloating. You should be praying to whatever gods that you can get suckers to fund your next crappy indie project.

"those cops back down real quick when they don't bring their big kid military toys"? Did he miss the point an unarmed woman was killed by a police officer over a single hour riot? Not to mention it's the usual leftist "I will allow immoral shit and argue about hypocricy the moment the other side something vaguely familiar" (and not even doing that right).

Two-thousand leaf backers scrape together sixty-thousand loonies to fund a cutesy Undertale rip-off with girls instead of monsters? And you expect me to believe the Jimerella that barely likes games somehow had the algorithms recommend this to him either on Kikestarter or Steam? Seems more likely that they paid Jim for a mention. The only big name associated with this project are the two people who make music for Steven Universe.
Wow, Jim. Isn't this what's called selling out? 🤔

Can anyone with this service confirm how "discoverable" Ikenfell is? I ask because in comparison, Steam has not recommended this game to me despite following pixel & JRPG tags and I've heard nothing about this game marketing-wise.

Reminder that fans were begging for a Switch port of Undertale long after PC launch; there is definitely a market for this type of game on that console but Ikenfell is unheard of. Ikenfell is also only a 3-month old game as of this post.

Steam stats to compare with original backers to gauge overall interest and reception of the game:

Seems odd for a retro JRPG that came in at the last quarter with no fanfare and barely a fanbase to register on anyone's Top 5 games of the year across all platforms, let alone a heavy hitter in youtube content. I don't watch Jim to know if he has a soft spot for this genre, and Street of Rage kind of props up the legitimacy of this weird pick.

So basically it's not successful where it counts, sales.

@Haramburger Well it has a 3.4 out of 5 on the service (between 4 total reviews). And as of now you have to actively search for it to find it. When it came out it was right in your face, though. So I assume that first week is basically all they'll see of success on subscription service. It also was on the top bar of the Humble Store for a while, where you scroll through the different things they're pushing. But it's a Humble game so that's to be expected.
