I know this, but it's still so difficult living in this modern climate, things were not even this bad in the year after 9/11, because that was an attack on America from an external threat, this is America falling apart at the seams.

And speaking of external threats, one thing I worry about that I feel like people don't talk about enough is the threat that Russia, China, Iran or North Korea may decide now is the time to get a war going looking at how ineffectual the US has become, imagine the country in this state trying to fight a major war, we're a house of cards ready to collapse.

I think an external major threat would put a rather quick stop to the splintering of America... Another Pearl Harbor would unify the US with one common goal, at least the majority would start working together.

And even if internally, politics are currently a clusterfuck, externally, no one is going to fuck around with the US, they still have the most powerful army with the largest ability to project force. What is more likely: Russia, Saudi Barbaria and maybe even China will start to support more radical groups to fracture nations and start takeovers like what Russia did with the Crimean Peninsula and the Saudis are doing with... literally any sandnation. They'll chip away at neutral countries while the US is too distracted with itself and while majorities to commit to an intervention are too hard to get, but they will never start challenging the US openly or directly.

I'm going to dissent on the statement of 4 years, but he's been consistently of the opinion that Trump is a symptom, not the cause, and that's something I wholeheartedly agree with. Even if Hillary had won, we'd have ended up here sooner or later, and I'm not going to waste time trying to figure out which.

A republican congressman who tried to explain the legal justification for doing so was lambasted and had his article removed from the publication he wrote for, while the editor who allowed him to submit it was canned. He got into a shouting match with his own generals about it. The fact is, the optics were bad to send troops into American cities at the time because the media and government were against it. The optics were too bad to not send them in now.
