Agreed. After many days of rioting where a historical church was burned and mass looting and destruction took place Trump eventually agreed to deploy the NG. As soon as he heard that they were planning to storm the White House he called the guard out.
I'm not a Trump hater, I fucking voted for him twice. But he's easily the most indecisive and weak President in history. How he's portrayed by the shitlib media, as a deranged authoritarian fascist, is 180 degrees from reality.
Now he's gone I hope a no shit authoritarian fascist takes his place. It's likely a good thing he's not going to be there to block the path for the next guy. After that speech he's finished.

There was supposedly a real risk that the generals would not listen to him if he tried.
It's hard to imagine, but a lot of the most highly-ranked officers of the military are essentially no different from establishment politicians, especially post-Obama purge.

Well that's on them if they didn't listen to him right then and there, isn't it? That would pretty much force their hand in the court of public opinion or else be replaced by someone that would listen, especially in that moment in time. The National Guard, in order to be deployed, requires the consent of the governors of whatever state. I think you can see why this might be a problem in Democrat states where rioting was heavy.

This is the fucking problem, people making excuses for his weakness. He's the God damned President. He has massive authority, including complete control of the military. A General refuses an order? Have him immediately arrested and court martialled You think his replacement is going to refuse?
Trump's greatest flaw is that he was too fucking lazy to work out what came with the job. What being the President actually allowed him to do. He surrounded himself with handlers who told him what he couldn't do rather that with operatives who could tell him what he could do to get shit done.
