That's just one circumstance. The President can also federalize the National Guard without their permission under the Insurrection Act.
And then we circle right back around to the whole "sure but will the brass listen" problem.

How many would he have had to fire and make some pretty rich martyrs, etc, etc.

The National Guard doesn't commit treason. When have they ever refused orders in any great number? They will do what they're told to do, so long as it isn't something like "mow down all these civilians by the thousands."

exactly, talk big, do nothing and wonder why people don't vote for him
The big talk was him promising something huge in the future. His fanboys and cultists hyped it up, talked each other into a frenzy that he'll expose the child-eating pedofork satanists operating from Pizza Planet's basement and to smash the deep state to usher in a new era of democracy and splendor (or something to that effect).
The further down the road he got, the further he kicked down the can of promises, it lead to an ever increasing wave of hype and expectations - and when he finally came to the end of this road, he had nothing to show for it.

Big promises that never paid off. I wonder how long it'll take for his moderate supporters to realize this and I wonder if his cultists will ever realize this at all. They are really good at making excuses after all.

You really should see his fanboys in Germany though. The genuine expected, month after month, a takeover of Germany (or the entire EU) by US troops and used every fucking thing to claim the show was about to start. And time and time again, nothing happened, so in best tinfoil-hat retardation, they eventually started to become more vague and vague, like Jehova#s Witnesses, that predicted the end of the world over and over until they dropped that and instead of naming dates, went with a vague "soon".

They won't do shit. Some people will get arrested, but all we need to do is look at the George Floyd Race Riots last summer to know how impotent government actually is.

You can't mass disenfranchise 76 million people. It's impossible.
"You can't mass disenfranchise 76 million people. It's impossible."
No, it means you're a god damned idiot incapable of any type of deeper thought on an issue so you force your own ignorant view through assumptions on others.

It means that I recognize the need for market regulations at all levels of government, including Federal, but also recognize that other business regulations are used to stifle the economy and add barriers to entry for industries and that regulations that only accomplish that need to go.

It means I'm morally against abortion, but recognize that it is a personal medical condition and as such the government doesn't have a compelling interest to infringe that right until the fetus can viably live outside the mothers' womb. Also that government funds should never be used to pay for an abortion and that, with current medical capabilities, late term abortions shouldn't be a thing since viability is achieved earlier.

It means I think everyone should be vaccinated for covid, but that the government can't use force to make someone get the vaccination. However the government can exclude people that refuse from public buildings including schools, universities, public parks, etc... etc...

This false dichotomy of "you must be left or right" is just a bullshit excuse dumb people try to force on others because they themselves are incapable of any sort of rational or critical thought, and presume that if they can't no one else can either and all those other people who can must be wrong.
This is why us American people are a joke lol, no balls no strong stances as that would be fascism or communist right enlightened centrist? Because of your thinking we will be the elite's bitches for the decades to come.

1950's Germany sobered up pretty quick. I'm guessing 10 years.

I have no idea why that first response is there, ignore that

And Germany, and the Pacific, and Korea, and Iraq (twice), and Afghanistan. The whole point of the NG is that they are less expensive than the regular army, because they aren't on the clock all the time. Their primary duty is to be the second guys to get the call when shit goes down, the "police+" aspect is a side bonus that lets them slip around prohibitions of using the army on US soil against US citizens.

Huh. I thought they were the "defend" guys whilst the army were the "attack" guys.
I need to learn more stuff.

It's like all this shit is just the pendulum in a cycle swinging.
"the power pendulum swings by the umbilical cord" is an apt lyric from a relevant song.

I know this, but it's still so difficult living in this modern climate, things were not even this bad in the year after 9/11, because that was an attack on America from an external threat, this is America falling apart at the seams.
You'd been saying this sort of stuff just before I bounced after the summer discourse, and things were basically normal pretty much everywhere during that whole time. I come back and you're still all doomer about this nonsense. Shit all happened after that, shit all's probably going to happen after this. You'll live.

There are essentially five tiers to the US military that they call up as needed:
Active Service
National Guard
Reserve
Inactive Reserve (everyone who got out of the military in the last 5 years)
Draft
After that, they lower the recruitment standards and keep drafting.
