There's a difference between the hippies and other forms of youth stupidity. Rockers and anarchists (or wannabes) either burn out, or dial it back but still cling to it. Hippies went on to join the mainstream but maintained a lot of their ass-backwards bullshit about how everybody is special and that everybody is a winner, disciplining a child is wrong because some children (specifically their ill-tempered twerps) are indigo children and that to do so would hurt their creative spirit, the government should stay out of their lives but should increase their foodstamps benefits, or that it's totally okay to destroy public or private property in an attempt to raise environmental awareness because fuck the Man, man.

But of course after the going got rough and mommy and daddy decided to cut off their spending money they straightened their act out and joined the mainstream. After all, who cares about the morals you supposedly believed in when you could have all the trust fund money?

Hippies were the tumblrinas of their generation.

The difference is that some of the stuff hippies produced was enjoyable. Can you say the same about Tumblr?

When you think about it, the generation before it helped plant the seeds to rebellion and getting mixed up. The late 40's and 50's were an era of fear, massive conformity and dislike of anyone who didn't fit some perfect little mode. How can we be a land of the free when comic books were shoved into massive censorship laws and we had the strict Hays code? Or we're to live in fear of commies to the point that we should let people whose only crime was having a different opinion (and some who didn't) get their entire lives ruined. When America is supposed to be brave and better than fear-mongers like Russia and Nazi-era Germany.

So if that led to the hippies, how did we get to the SJWs of today?

OK, so a lot of hippie stuff sucks and most of the good stuff was co-opted by them (take "Keep on Truckin'" and its creator Robert Crumb, who became a major part of the hippie counterculture despite hating it fervently).

The economic booms of the 80s and 90s which produced a comfortable existence for kids to grow up in combined with whole new ideas about parenting responsible for helicopter parenting, the rise of easy access to the internet, and the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality responsible for creating easily offended special snowflakes.

I've got to admit, the whole "everyone gets a trophy" thing is probably more fiction than fact. Most of the people I knew who came in last at anything, whether it be sports or tests, were told "Better luck next time." No "You're a winner too."

I kinda want to say that like how the hippies grew out of the conformity of the 50s, SJWs grew out of the Bush years.

There was a apparently a youtube SJW feeding frenzy. AFAIK, it started when one of the feminists accused a white knight of sexually harassing her, which set off a civil war of sorts. As I see it, there are two possibilities. 1) he fit the "nice guy" trope and tried to play his hand too soon and was rejected by the feminist. 2) She made that shit up and he was hoisted by his own petard by doing all those socjus selfhating vlogs until he became more useful as an "abuser" than an "ally". These people don't see themselves fitting the aesthetic of the Nazis or fascists in general. They do not look like Nazis. To them, that means they can only be anti-Nazis and the Holocaust is just another tool they can use to shut down dissenters and opponents. They don't need to know about what happened or why. All that matter to them is that people cower at the word. The deaths of 11 million people are nothing more to them than a club to wield and strike down any of challenge them.
