I don't think the Ryan thing is true. Presidential candidates don't pick their running mate until after the convention (edit: nomination). Plus Ryan had the stink of losing to Obama in 2012.

As for Pence: No one liked him on the MAGA side but tolerated him as the price of doing business. The speculation was that the GOP made him pick Pence as a concession to let him take the nomination without any drama. People forget that the usual suspects were begging the party to hand the nomination to a fag like Kasich. The fact he ever got 4 years in the first place is miracle.
