Anyone who hasn't worked in months and still has money left in their account is either almost entirely self-sufficient or on some kind of welfare/charity program. You still pay taxes, bills for the water, electric, and maybe the heating company (Canadian winters are usually cold). You still have to buy food, and depending on how serious your lockdown is, you may also need to pay someone to deliver it. And I'm certain that the Canadian government hasn't stopped collecting taxes.Catching up the downtime

Additionally, the only reason companies sell you shit you don't need is because you're willing to buy that shit. Yes, on one hand it is a symptom of the hedonistic excess of capitalism, but on the other hand we are the first people in human history to have our needs so fulfilled we can afford to buy this crap.
