What the hell is this comparison. He didn't say he did it because Bernie told him to. He didn't say anything. He simply was a Bernie supporter, among other things, and he posted a political cartoon of his target Scalise giving a speech to the KKK...
which was something that did happen (but doesn't mean he shared those views).
Trump here:
- didn't have the DC National Guard out and ready to meet the protesters and keep things from getting out of control... yet he did have the full National Guard entirely mobilized back in June for BLM's protests in DC
- met with the protesters and incited the riot, telling them,
"Republicans are constantly fighting like a boxer with his hands tied behind his back", urging them to fight without being held back by wanting to be "nice" and "respectful" of "bad people"
- and told them,
"we’re going to have to fight much harder"
- and told them, "
you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength"
- and told them, "When you catch somebody in a fraud,
you are allowed to go by very different rules"
- and told them, "We will not take it anymore, and that is what this is all about. And to use a favorite term that all of you people really came up with,
we will stop the steal", encouraging them to stop the count and stop the certification
- and told them, "“We fight like hell, and
if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore."
- and told them, "
we’re going to walk down, and I’ll be there with you. We are going to the Capitol"
- and told them, "we’re going to try and give them the kind of pride and
boldness that they need to take back our country."
- we've had a Republican senator report to conservative media that senior white house officials observed Trump being delighted watching his supporters riot and clash with police at the Capitol and confused why aides weren't as excited
- Trump was an impediment to calling in the National Guard, with reports of a scramble of officials not knowing if they even had the authority to call them without the President, eventually coming - far too late- through unusual channels, and through Pence. Maryland and Virginia had to send in their National Guard and state troopers to help contain it because of the lack of leadership and control over the situation
- Throughout the riot, Trump was urged to condemn the violence and he didn't
- Trump told the rioters who had attacked police, chanted anti-police slogans, invaded the Capitol, forced senators and congressmembers to evacuate, after pipe bombs had been found, and people had been shot and seriously injured: "
we love you, you're very special".
- Again refusing to disavow and condemn, Trump tweeted: "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!” Characterizing the rioters as patriotic victims, vindicating them, and trying to paint the insurrection as if it were a good day for the USA
And of course, it was his persistent fraudulent claims of a stolen election that also incited this mob to begin with. All his fake news and conspiracy theories misleading people and demonizing anyone who doesn't support him.
You make an absolutely ludicrous comparison. Regardless of whether you agree he is legally responsible for inciting a riot, it's a far cry from Bernie Sanders' involvement in Scalise's shooting, which was zero. Zero involvement. There exists no comparison. And right here in this thread, we have the police officer who shot the terrorist in 2017, defending Scalise's life, being painted as a murderer and traitor for
allegedly shooting Babbitt (the identification grounds are shaky). And
you want to talk double standards?
