Eric Swalwell: "Trump is inciting people just like Bin Laden. MAGA chuds are Al-Qaeda. Ready for the drone strikes of love and peace? Also, I just took my dick out of a ChiCom spy and don't know what 'incitement' means under the law."

How the hell does this guy build up the gonads to appear on national television after being revealed to have been compromised by a Chinese spy?

Oh, that's right. Because he's a left winger, and the media has made it hospitable for left-wing liabilities to pretend to have any credibility.

The overwhelming majority of the house GOP refused to go along with this BS, meaning that, at the very least, they still know which way their voters want them to go.
They know damn well this isn't going anywhere in the Senate so it is an embarrassing waste of time. It is an obvious abuse of the impeachment process and will go down in history as a pure embarrassment, something that should not be done.

Impeachment is a fucking meme, articles of impeachment should be voted on every month or so because why not.

Makes it almost look like the CCP is using the US Establishment as proxies to punish Trump

While it isn't the 100% unity they had last time, surely this means the the whole GOP is throwing Trump under the bus meme is dead.

I mean Trump has what 90% approval rating with his supporters who probably lean Republican and was voted most admired man in the world? Impeaching him when he has less than a week left in the White House is the stupidest most petty thing possible. Hes all but gone, and even though he says hes going to run in 2024 he's not going to win the nom, for all intents and purposes hes done in politics. Kicking him on his way out the door would accomplish nothing except piss off his supporters and cost some of these guys their seats.

Doesn't a successful impeachment mean the accused can't run for office any more afterwards? That seems to be their goal.

I mean some of these guys have already lost their seats.

If Trump runs in 2024, he would win the nomination. The Republicans would have to go to Democrat rules to stop him.

That's why they want to bar him from running desperately.

>Trump starts presidency promising to #LockHerUp
>His presidency ends with him getting locked up

I'm surprised he didn't pull a Nixon; resign and get Pence to pardon him.

Impeachment is now just a political weapon to try and remove people from office they don't like. I would say this is going to be a regular problem but considering the amount of power the Democrats have, I have strong feeling there's not going to be a need to do so. Every politician is going to fall in line or be Mao'd.

The fact that they obviously want to stop him running in 2024 convinces me that in a couple months to a years time proof that the election was stolen from Trump will come out that just cannot be ignored. The fallout will be great.
Seems unlikely. If there was proof to be had the election was stolen, the Republicans would have found it by now. More likely Trump's been such a loose canon that's accomplished so little, that whipping a mob up into a frenzy aimed at them was the last straw and they just really don't want to have to deal with him again. Nor are they keen on seeing what he might do with the privileges he'd be entitled to as a former president who served out his term. A lot of Republicans would be similarly happy to see him gone, but aren't keen on the potential precedents that would be set in punishing Trump at this point. That's probably what McConnell is weighing at this point. Punish Trump, mostly get rid of him, but risk unpleasant long term precedents? Don't punish him, risk him dividing the Republican vote next election, but avoid worrisome precedents?

That would probably be the best thing for him and in general, with the second best thing being Trump using the 25th amendment to hand power to Pence for the remainder of his term and spend the rest of it golfing. However I don't think Trump's capable of thinking in those terms. It'd require too much admitting he'd fucked up and done something wrong. Also he may not be confident that Pence would pardon him. Pence is still probably pretty pissed at Trump; just not enough to start bending the intent of the 25th amendment. So Trump remains in place and Pence spends his time praying nothing else happens before Trumps term is up and it's no longer Pence's personal problem to deal with shit.

Try it and report back?

The GOP hates him. They found more than enough for him to win. They just did not want to. The plan was to get rid of Trump but keep the senate...and then they did not really support Trump in his challenges, basically ensured the 2000 Covid relief would not pass and assumed the Dems would not do what they did to Trump to establishment candidates. Such blunders cost them Georgia.

If I were Mitch I would avoid the long term shit of screwing the party at this point. And not care about precedent considering Dems don't care. But hey if I were Mitch I would not be in this situation. I'd still have the Senate.

Well Trump is screwed now.

The Senate is far more likely to impeach him; and I've no doubt information is coming out over the coming weeks that will see members expelled from the House - and possibly though unlikely the Senate.

X Prime, you have to consider the lack of information people on this forum have about Impeachment and it's purpose. I'd be surprised if there is a single Trump supporter on here that has even read the briefs filed in court or the judges decisions. Oh I am sure they know some bullet points but that is about it. They didn't actually read them though.

You people forget the impending civil war when the GOP screws over Trump. I doubt MAGA or the rank and file will take this standing down or want to return to the pre-Trumo normal.

But who cares, the dems want a divided GOP. So let then rule this cursed nation.

This is beyond retarded.

There were plenty of senior republicans who warned against having Trump as the nominee - but frankly the voters get what they want so there was nothing to stop Trump getting in.

But Trump will not be returning in 2024, or 2028 or ever. That is a pipedream of delusion for anyone fostering it in their mind. Big Tech, big money and truly powerful politics is against him - it is not David versus Goliath but more akin to Cockroach vs. Godzilla. The Dems do not need to do much as the GOP will pull most of the weight on this with the Democrats holding the sword, but the GOP quietly sharpening the blade.

I doubt there could be a civil war because that is not plausible, but domestic terrorism for sure over the next 4-8 years. But it won't amount to a great amount of damage. All that will happen is for every domestic act of terrorism, those committing the acts will simply erode the freedoms for us they purport they are fighting for, and both parties will approve of these eroded freedoms.

Which bothers me a little but not a great deal. Instead I propose they all go to Florida and live at Trumps compound and start their own community.

As for Biden there is not much he can do to unite the nation; but he can govern well and I imagine that is what most people had hoped for - good governance, but most are realistic about the troubles we are having and know Biden isn't there to fix that. That's certainly not why he got my vote - to heal a nation or sooth relations between Dems and Republicans. Instead, I just wanted a reasonable person to be at the Bridge as we go through the inevitable economic nightmare and heath crisis we are in for.
