I would say that right now it's only viewed differently because it's not mainstream. Not enough people care about furries to pay attention to them, and if someone in the community gets canceled it's always by another community member.So is that why sexy furry art & fan service is exempted from the "fanservice & sexualized depictions of women are sexist & objectifying" rule these cretins have? Because they've pretty much destroyed fanservice in the west but have left sexy furry art untouched, allowing furries to make sexy art & fanservice without cries of "sexism" & "objectification". I have been dying to know.
Some things you might be more interested in looking at with regards to that theory are BDSM, crossdressing, and fat fetishism. Those are often displayed openly in public with sometimes grotesque levels of sexualization for no real purpose except demoralization.
