Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

My nan, grandad and uncle that live across the road from my aunt and cousin have come down all flu-ey. It might be the coof or it might just be the flu, they did tests yesterday and they’re waiting on the results. My mom is all assblasted though because my grandad is being stubborn and refusing to do the test. I tried to explain that maybe he doesn’t want to become a case statistic that is then used to justify further lockdown restrictions but my mom basically said that’s stupid because Orange Man once said we should stop testing because all the new cases were making him look incompetent and Orange Man Bad so tests = good.

It’s actually really funny because she was all like “if your uncle and Nan test positive then surely he has it as well since he has the exact same symptoms!” in which case he doesn’t need to take the test at all and it’s really no big deal. Obviously they’re both old and my uncle is pretty fat though so I hope they all recover alright.

"Van-Tam has served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England since 2 October 2017. "
I took that into account: he is a UK gov COVID bigwig, they are quoting him directly, and even include the video source. He really did phrase it exactly like they're reporting. They didn't even need to sensationalize it.

lol, some smartypants out there bought out all of the
Code:
covid[21-99].com
domain names, in a bet that there will be future COVIDs (ie, someone bought covid21.com, covid22.com, covid23.com ... all the way to covid99.com from what I can tell). Imagine the coming COVID-21, COVID-23, ... ,COVID-34, ...
If you can find it theres a film Songbird about precisely this.

I don't mean to come off as an epic pussy, but just watching the trailer for Songbird freaked me out to near tears. I feel like we're so fucked and we're beyond the event horizon already, and these sacks of shit are putting out media like that to laugh at us.

"This is what we're going to do to you and there's nothing you can do about it."

I totally agree, and I feel the same.

I've never, ever seen my boyfriend cry, ever. But we saw a trailer for it and he wept like a distraught kid. I was terrified by that. I wont be watching it because I cannot even let myself think about things getting like that, as I can feel my brain start to think about the best way to kill myself if it does. I know how melodramatic that sounds and I'll happily take my puzzle pieces, but it upset me more than anything I have ever seen.

Yo, Newsom, you little bitch. Just because you call the recall a "California Coup" doesn't mean it won't happen. Bite my crank!

Meanwhile, in Norway, nearly two dozen oldiewonks have died because of vaccine side effects to the Norwegian health services are going to tinker with the dosage.

1. It was the Pfizer vaccine and 2. If that's what it does to older people with their clapped put immune systems then I'm not touching that shit with a hundred foot pole.
Tinker with vaccine doses... That's not how that works. With all medicine you have to take it regimentally. Pfizer is a fucking wash.

I read about it on Wikipedia because I don't think I could stomach the trailer or the film. According to Wikipedia, the film got a poor reception from mainstream "critics."

:thinking:material, or is it just that bad?
That's something I noticed too! The part of me that thinks everything is shit, thinks maybe Bay sees through the bullshit and sees where things are going and made it as a great big fu k you to the WHO and everyone orchestrating this, hence the shitcanning of it by critics.

The part of me that's seen one of the transformers movies thinks Bay is a complete hack and his movies all suck.

Before Newsom stepped to the podium, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti introduced him as “not just California’s governor, but America’s governor.”

LOL don't let Cuomo hear about that!

Watched the songbird trailer. It must be super hard hitting to the CA,MI, NY posters.

Come to Florida. The worst of this craziest ended last August when the Gov said no more to the madness and local mandates can't have fines or any legal enforcement. I never get shit for not wearing a mask outside work and everything is open if not fully then in some capacity. This is probably the best state in the Union to weather this craziness going through our country. A stable booming economy, low taxes, strong governor etc.

And maybe Gov Desantis has skeletons or might do something bad in the future. What I will remember is he looked out for the people and did the right thing in a situation where doing the wrong thing was easy and popular.

Looking at the rotten tomatoes scores the critics obviously hated it but audiences were only about 30% more receptive at 37%, the bar-graphs on the google reviews are predominately 5s or 1s, though the overall averages out to 3.4 which is better than 50% if my bad math is correct, so it looks like a love it or hate it film which shouldn't be surprising.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it probably isn't very well made on a technical level at minimum since I'm seeing words like "cheese" and "cliche" in both positive and negative reviews.

I'm a little curious now...

Sadly I don't see the recall passing even if it does make it to a vote. A lot of Californians may not like lockdowns but they'll absolutely believe him when he says this is a Trumper coup and circle the wagons around him.

I've seen it. It's not that bad, or at least better than what I was expecting from Rotten Tomatoes. The movie doesn't spend all its time bashing people who won't wear mask or are upset about lockdowns, which I think is at least part of the reason for the negative reviews. This review sold me on it -

Basically, if you like the kind of movies Roger Corman used to make, you might get a kick out of this.
