Current precedent was set and enforced by Obama's Operation Chokepoint. Previous precedent was as long as the money was real legal tender and not tied to criminal activity was a "bigot's" (or other adjectives) dollar is still a dollar.

Yes there seems to have been a sudden swing toward simping for the government and its enforcers among what was previously the “abolish the State” anarcho-Left in general over the last ten days or so. Color me shocked..
For Leftists of this ilk, the whole anarchy schtick is just an act and they are actually very in favor of The State, as long as they are the ones running it.

With CZ in talks to buy Colt I felt like bringing up Small Arms Solutions which is made by a former Colt engineer, who explains how Colt got in such trouble in the first place.
The second half of the video is really just him venting about his time at Colt.

CZ is a seen as a state champion in the Czech republic, sometimes like with Airlines that's an excuse for a company to get lazy knowing that the governement will look after them, but in CZ's case they use it to drive exports, which benefits everyone.
Also unlike shit tier companies like BAE they actually sell quality, cost effective weapons that buyers actually want.
Being bought by CZ will be the best thing for Colt, and there's always the chance of a US governement contract that would have to be produced in the US, so production could always be resumed at a later date.

A lot worse could've and has happened to Colt. They could've been bought up by another group of soulless corporate raiders like Freedom Group or just dismembered and parted out like Remington. Hopefully CZ finds a new niche for them.

Bartocci seems to know a lot about Colt and the AR platform but I frequently catch him making mistakes in his Q&A vids....such as being very sure that Austria produced a licensed G3 variant for use as their service rifle at one point - they didn’t, they produced an FAL variant.
Or not knowing what a “brass over bolt” malfunction is.
Also, mini-drama, apparently he devoted some time and effort to assisting with the Colt SMG section on the 2nd edition of the AR-15 Vickers Guide and received no compensation for it and now regrets the decision.
While I’m kinda “meh” on the WWSD carbine, and enjoy making fun of Karl, Bartocci’s inability to grasp the basic premise behind the concept is comical as well.

But the idea behind WWSD was IF Stoner were designing the AR-15 TODAY, using the same design philosophy of a lightweight 5.56mm rifle using the most modern materials available, how would he do it? Now I still think the WWSD carbine might be a better thought experiment than production rifle but whatever, I don’t have to buy one. But I at least get the idea behind it.
Also, bitchy gossip time, I once recall someone implying some of Bartocci’s employment issues might be related to a bit of a drinking problem.

I can tell you that Stoner wouldn't be making it out of plastic were he designing it today. I think they only went with that (Karl and Ian) because they're only gamer shooters.

Colt apparently did try plastic back in the day, but it was not great due to the tech back then, and I'm not sure Stoner had anything to do with it. I think the lower receiver is probably the part with the best chance of working out, you can just put a BCM upper on that. Any issues that would come up would probably appear in the gassing/general recoil system, I think they went too fancy with that and possibly under-gassed.

A battle rifle (which is what the M16 is) has to withstand battle conditions. Not to sound pedantic or be a dick about it, but a modern plastics lower is not going to survive that kind of abuse. Eventually one day sure who knows? Right now though, especially with carbines/variable length stocks being way more practical on the modern battlefield I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Colt had been in a state of near critical existence failure ever since Samuel Colt founded the company. As Samuel Colt eyeballed govt. contracts above all else and had little regard for sales to the "civilian" market. While everyone else was trying to get a stake in every market that was buying.

If you look at the Wikipedia entry for the CZ BREN.
Even though they haven't got a single large military to choose it as a standard service rifle, they've sold it to over a dozen nations Special Forces and Police. (Including to the GIGN in 7.62x39mm! of all things I suppose instead of .308 blackout).
A lot of large companies would turn their noses up at chasing small orders, but CZ have kind of made it work, and kept the BREN on the market. That corporate culture In a country like the US with 100's of different local and federal agencies that have an armed component, could be just what Colt needs.
