To be fair, Madeline L'engle had a profound experience on me also, I might not have been a writer or gotten a master's in english without the time quintet. There is one big difference - I read them when I was 8, not 33.

I once had a spider bite that they did the same thing for me, lanced it, drained it, and told me if it went past a line go straight to the ER do not pass go. Except the next day it had passed the line. I ended up in the hospital for 72 hours on some super strength antibiotics. When that mutilated gash gets infected and they decide to not go straight to the doctor, the inevitable sepsis will kill him and fast.
