This is one of the interesting things about delusional disorders like Erotomania and Schizophrenia, they are essentially an asymptote of irrationality even in an otherwise rational mind. Famously and rather unethically, three schizophrenics with the same delusion were put into a room, one was cured, one was even more convinced he was Jesus, and the third became convinced the second schizophrenic was Jesus instead.

Another consequence of the schizophrenia. When confronted with information that contradicts or could contradict the delusion it is either rationalized away or memory holed.
An excellent example, whenever I point out that Pam is responsible for perpetuating the thread, she retorts that she did not start it, as if that somehow absolves her of keeping it going so long.
