I agree that it definitely is weird. They like to use the faces of these people as symbols, but doing so makes it seem like they haven't researched them. A communist tent set up a few months ago and was distributing pictures of Karl Marx with sunglasses and pride flags as if he wasn't an outspoken homophobe. The point they're making is that they're gay and communist, but when your symbol is established to disagree with you, it doesn't really work.
A lot of communist figures get washed of their less politically correct facts and quotes so they can be appealing to the retarded masses of idiots who want to join the movement. And even if you tell them the truth to their fucking faces they will refuse to believe it, like the fact that Stalin criminalized homosexuality in the Soviet Union and that a delegalization of marriage in the USSR lead to roughly 65% of women becoming so destitute they became prostitues.
Sadly, given that they think ”sex work” is real work, they probably see that as a positive.
sort of like how Fidel Castro bragged openly that even the prostitutes of Cuba are fully literate, which doesn't actually make Cuba look as good as he autistically thought it would. He tried to make it seem like "Cuban education is so great even prostitutes can read and write" but it ends up sounding like "Even though everybody can read and write, some people still can't get good jobs and have to resort to prostitution to survive".

Back when National Geographic was based (late 1980s), there was an article on Cuba that included the fact that they use literal child labor in the agricultural sector - children are literally taken (wrenched forcibly) from their parents around age 10-11 and sent to boarding schools that also include picking strawberries and harvesting sugarcane, and also admitting every cuban child knows how to field-strip an AK-47 by the time they're 16.
