University level criticism is a lot more insightful than what these dipshits talk about. For example, a Marxist look at transformers would be a cynical look on how it subliminally advertised products to children despite Reagan-era policies trying to limit how often children’s programming was allowed to advertise.

My thesis paper was basically a look at how a lifetime of advertising affected my generation. Using Disney as my core example, I theorized how they basically bred the modern day consoomer. (Honestly it’s kinda horrifying because zoomers are even worse off than my generation. They have been bombarded with way more advertising in every facet of their life compared to Gen X and Millenials.)

Don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty fart-huffy in its own right, but fun to talk about nonetheless.

It speaks a lot when you’re not even that popular of a commentary channel, and your PogChamps video is on the verge of matching your sub count. The other four videos are near the 140-160K+ view mark, and for a guy to have 438K subs, that’s hardly something to gloat about, let alone think you’re making something that only your Discord hug box likes.

Is your case really "critical" though? Critical should be focused on assumed standards like capitalism, patriarchy, and or empirical science right? In my aforementioned "Nano's Key", the critical aspect would be how you relate the rape to shit like women's autonomy or Japanese sexualization of minors. What you mentioned seems more like an actual marketing class or something, but that could just be me not getting the whole picture.

My experience in UNI was that we were supposed to find an advertisement on class, and by the next, analyze it critically for sexist themes. Almost every girl chose the targeted google ad sense ads they got and bitched about how they were being advertised dresses (one of which was wearing the exact dress in the ad) to enforce norms.

I chose an ad for a bird dog trainer because I'm a fucking redneck, and the female trainer carrying 6 dead ducks with 4 bird dogs standing at attention and had points off for not highlighting "the undeniable implication that without the dogs, the woman would be unable to hunt for herself"

I'm betting a lot of those subs are ones from people who subbed but stopped watching or caring. I'm subbed to Sargon and haven't watched a single video of his in 5 years. The numbers alone are hardly damming as most youtubers barely have more than 25% sub engagement and get most views from the algorithm pushing videos around.

That being said Quintons stale ass content is why he's not growing his channel at all. Why watch Quinton when you could watch someone more entertaining or insightful? He's even more boring and annoying than current era nostalgia critic.

We totally did the same exercises, though the classes I took covered a wide range of critical theory. Sometimes we did have to analyze something using feminist theory and we’d look at an ad to find “underlying sexist themes.”

I paraphrased my paper in my original post quite a bit, since I didn’t want to write an entire text wall. A lot of the “critical” part was focused on subliminal advertising, making Disney a part of someone’s identity, emotional attachment etc. there’s a lot of avenues to go down, and it basically boiled down to “capitalism bad, corporations bad”

Again, there definitely was a LOT of fart sniffing going around. A lot of people are really bad using at feminist, queer, and racial theory to critique media, and end up drawing really fucking bizarre conclusions or twist interpretations to meet their word count and world view. But I really enjoyed it for what it was.


Regardless, we’re super off topic. We’re here to laugh at an asexual sperg that fills the void in his life with iCarly and Garfield.
