The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

No, apparently Kong just had a huge growth spurt. We still don't have an official height and weight for Kong for GvK, all we know is he was an adolescent in Kong: Skull Island, but he's now an adult but might still be growing (since Godzilla still grew between 2014 and 2019, which might be from radiation for all we know).

Pretty much this. They mentioned in Kong: Skull Island that Kong was "still growing" which was an obvious out to have him be up to Godzilla's size come battle time.

As for the aircraft carrier, I believe it is probably the largest aircraft carrier ever, if the ads we've seen so far are anything to go by. It appears it was used specifically to transport Kong, meaning, its huge as fuck.

First trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong has dropped.

Not as bad as a I thought, might have to venture to the theaters for first time in over year to see this. Also is that Super-X?

Looks like big dumb fun, though it's directed by the hack that made that godawful Netflix Death Note so I'm pretty confident it won't be anything resembling "good". But hey, I'm in the mood for some mindless action and these aren't exactly the kind of films that require deep thinking.

Oh man, both Godzilla and Kong are PISSED.

Trailer's rather generic compared to KOTM's trailer, but it looks like we're going to get some really awesome fights so you bet your ass we're going to sit our butts in those seats in the IMAX and have some dumb fun. Kong with the ax that negates Godzilla's atomic breath is so amazing, like I guess the fan theory it's a dorsal plate was true.

It looks okay, I already have the entire movie in my brain if they introduce a third monster though. It would be a good theater movie, but I think I'll go with the at home option.

"This movie is racist because apes have been used to depict black people as beasts with no self control. The image of kong being subdued by chains and forced to fight for white people shocked me so much I spend the last night crying" probably someone in the near future.
PD: Godzilla will punk Kong.

I knew it. They cant have a definitive winner, so they will toss Mecha Ghidora and they will team up. Kindda like Batman V Superman... my excitment for the movie went down 60%.
Now what if both MechaGodzilla and MechaGhidorah are in it? Like the left head's gotta be used for something even if the one on the screen there looks like MechaGodzilla.

Still have a little hope spot that maybe, juuuust maybe, Godzilla will sneak in a little punch or smack upside Kong's head with his tail at the end of it all just to tease "I'm not going to let this go that easily, but you live another day. Damn kids." This Godzilla is old and grumpy enough that he'd be like that.

Okay, its easy to see how this goes.
-Goji and Kong have 2-3 fights, with them mostly in the favor of Goji
-Kong gets the Axe and is able to turn the tables now
-Fight in the city at night, Kong dumpsters Goji thanks to the Axe
This is where it gets muddled for me, but this is assuming the shot of the destroyed city during the day is after the fight at night.
-Before Kong finishes Goji the Mech comes in take out the weakened Kong
-Goji looks like its going to take a potshot at Kong with Atomic Breath but hits the Axe and supercharges it
-Kong takes out the Mech and it explodes furthering the damage in the city
-Goji regains some strength/gets empowered by the explosion and the two square up
-Stalemate/Acknowledgement of equal strength from the two ending up with Goji in the eastern hemisphere and Kong in the western hemisphere.

And then the explanation for Godzilla fucking up cities is going to be something to do with the leftover Ghidora parts and him being able to detect it.

Yeah, I think that's the reason he's so pissed. Like Godzilla was irritated in 2014, but it was more out of an annoyance he was woken up to take on some parasites (which was a difficult match for him since they fed off his radiation). But in 2019, he was extremely pissed because of Ghidorah still being alive and humans were waking him up. Ghidorah is apparently the only thing in the world that makes him extremely agitated, so if he still senses Ghidorah's life energy despite literally going nuclear on his ass, no wonder he's gone apeshit on human cities.

This is likely, too:
What if they take a page out of the 1974 film's playbook and Mechagodzilla is disguised as Godzilla and is framing him?
But you'd have to wonder why they're doing that. Least in MechaGodzilla's case, that was aliens doing their thing. Thus far, outside of Ghidorah, aliens aren't a thing in the Monsterverse, but we do have Alan Jonah and his ecoterrorist group. Although they would've had to have been working on that mech longer than a year, so the motive isn't clear right now.

But if that one IMDb summary is correct that humans are wanting to use the Titans as weapons of war... this is gonna get interesting. Muddled, but interesting.

Theory! The trailer makes it look like Godzilla has done a heel turn and is attacking people.

I hope that's not the case, because that'd be a cop-out, right? Like Kong and Godzilla never actually fight, it's MechaG the whole time. Kind of like how Friday the 13th: A new Beginning is bullshit because it turns out to be a Jason copycat.

Personally I thought the trailer was just okay, The rap music was embarrassing.

I'm going with the ecoterrorists steal Mechagodzilla plans to make Mecha-King Ghidorah and it's going to be a 3v1 last battle.

Edit:

They're moving around the Kevin head since Godzilla keeps smashing their terrorist labs looking for it.
That's why Godzilla's grumpy.

Maybe to the general audience who's not familiar with Godzilla, but it wouldn't feel too out-of-place in the Godzilla mythos. But the line "Kong bows to no one" says otherwise as it suggests Kong is challenging Godzilla for the title of King of the Monsters, so I dunno.

Lmao I love this.

Now my biggest worry/concern about this is the fandom and how it's slowly but surely falling into the same pitfall as every other fandoms: shipping. It really got prominent in 2019 thanks to Dougherty, and he's credited with the story for GvK, though I don't know how much of his influence will be felt in it. Because if there's still some of his influence to be felt, expect more stuff like this:

keikaku.png

but with more kaiju ships to lose one's mind over. I mean, it's made for some interesting hot takes for the shipping thread, but I don't feel like I'm ready for the onslaught of Godzilla/Mothra and Godzilla/Kong shipwars--or worse, the Godzilla/Mothra/Kong polyship.

I'm gonna puke just for mentioning it.

4v1 final battle and/or orgy then.

I totally forgot the Mothra angle on account of the brain bleach I drank from the whole shipping thing.
