I believe Youtube lost money, but the data they got was worth it to them. Kept consumers on google longer, so it was a winning deal for them.Sort of unrelated to the thread, but all centralised YouTube alternatives are destined for failure. I'm not even sure YouTube itself pulls in a profit, it's definitely got parts that are bootstrapped by other Google projects that do make money.
PeerTube/federated solutions look to be the way forward after Bitchute and Storyfire go down, decentralisation is what will draw in the people banned from other platforms, the streaming costs are distributed and advertisers can pick and choose which nodes to advertise on and avoid the more unsavoury content.
If people ever do make the switch the these platforms, I imagine the transition would kill a huge chunk of Boogie's audience who wouldn't care to resubscribe to him on a new platform.
Very few other companies could sustain the money they spend on youtube.
