Arcade Games

If it's a beat-em up, I'm in. Just about ANY arcade beat-em up is awesome, IMHO.

TBH, I also like Fighting games; I like watching them, though, mostly because I suck at fighting games.....

Unfortunately, I missed my chance to play most of the good arcade games, but I have a lot of arcade ports. Is talking about those acceptable?
Sure, speak of arcade ports since some games on consoles are ported from arcades such as Crazy Taxi and the aforementioned Cannon Spike.

Beat-em ups are awesome such as Cadillacs & Dinosaurs or The Simpsons. Granted, there are some that can also suck such as this:
Fun fact for that game is that it is, according to this link, is that it was a sort of sequel to Pit Fighter.

Emulation may as well be one of the best things for arcades in some cases. At least now, we can try to play some of the old classics, even if it isn't on par with the actual machines.

*Edit: So as not to doublle-post, I'm just gonna share this:
Arcades did have interesting games beyond the likes of rail-shooters and beat-em ups.

Ah, knock-offs and sequels can be epic fails. I wish I got to play this MK clone, because... Look at it! The premise is interesting, but everything else... Woof.

Tattoo Assassins. I remember watching this video on it.
Considering the video you linked, there does exist a cabinet for it. Also, from the same guy whose vid I linked, here is a crap fighting game he had a vid on.
As much as how arcades did have crappy games, some of them can have some sort of fascination behind them.

I love beat em ups as well, played a shitload of them via that GameTap service when I was 14-15 including a bunch mentioned in this thread (looking at Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Crossed Swords particularly). The one that sparked my interest in them was Golden Axe - the arcade version of that was good in its own right but the Sega Genesis port felt more complete to me since you had two more stages, a challenging pallete swap "true final boss" (not saying Death Adder wasn't a challenge but Death Bringer has this magic he can use right after he knocks you down so he can eat your life up pretty quickly), and when you beat the game you get a cast roll and credits screen. Though the arcade version had an epic death animation for Death Adder and a funny ending where the monsters come out of the arcade machine and chase players (not literally though). I also love how it appears to have been inspired by Conan the Barbarian which was cool.

I actually have 2 ports of Pit Fighter. I have the SNES and Sega Genesis ports. The Genisis version is pretty similar to the arcade version, a great mix between a fighting game and a beat em up. The SNES version is just terrible.

I know a few MK knockoffs as well.

I'm coming home from a vacation right now. I'll have more arcadey goodness when I get back.

I was at a convention's arcade and now I have a new favorite. Punch Mania: Fist of the North Star.

It's really just Whack-a-Mole using your fists but it is ridiculously fun. Sadly, it's a pretty ancient and even if they still had the license, Konami sucks now.

I also wanted to play those rhythm games like DJMax Technika but the lines are always packed.

I lover arcade games. Here's a few of my favorites, from bygone times.

For BMUPs, I was always a fan of Prisoners of War.
BMNHH54.jpg

By all accounts, it's a mediocre beat-em-up, but it's the only BMUP I know of where a bullet will solve any enemy encounter in the game. Even the last boss goes down in one bullet. I beat it countless times over the course of a summer, especially when me and a few friends found ways to get the Assault Rifle essentially on call. Some tricks include dropping the rifle when it has almost no ammo left, letting an enemy pick it up, and kick his ass to get a fresh magazine. Another, cheesier way to get the Rifle easily, even on levels it never spawns, is to wait around when there's no enemies around for about 30 seconds, at which point a trio of rifle soldiers will run onto the set, open fire, and then run off. If you're skilled, mugging them for the rifle with a jump-kick is easy.

For arguably the best BMUP ever due to pure, unadulterated insanity, please see Growl.

For shoot-em-ups, I really liked Midnight Resistance. It's almost quaint by modern standards, but this SMUP was a hell of a lot of fun. It's essentially the story of a pair of heroes trying to save their family after a scientist finds a cure for drug addiction. An alien overlord was planning to use drugs to take over the world, but that failed due to his research, and now, you and a friend have to go fuck up an Alien Army because screw waiting for the military to handle shit. It has a fantastic soundtrack and despite its idiocy in general is a great game. It used a rotational joystick to enable you to move in a given direction and shoot in another. Cool stuff!

As many before me, my favorite Arcade game of all time is Spy Hunter.

Words cannot describe how much I played this one as a child.

I'd like to talk about Fantasy Zone here - initially released for arcades by SEGA in 1986, then obligatory home console ports and even a home system sequel that's seen an arcade remake/overhaul during the PS2 days, which was then ported to the Nintendo 3DS for the eShop. This game has been creeping up to be one of my favorite shmups since I bought it for my 3DS. This game has been dubbed one of the first "cute-em-ups" due to its bright pastel colors and strange, cutesy designs. I have no specific memories of the arcade versions, but I do first remember checking the Master System and other ports out on emulator long before buying the 3DS remakes.

The endings seem kinda like an excuse to shoehorn plot twists into the game though.
FZ1 - HOLY SHIT THE MASTERMIND OF THE INVASION IS OPA-OPA's FATHER!!1
FZ2 - HOLY SHIT THE REAL MASTERMIND IS OPA-OPA'S EVIL HEADMATE AND HIS EVIL HEADMATE CORRUPTED OPA-OPA'S DAD OR SOMETHING WHICH IS WHY OPAPA WAS THE MASTERMIND IN THE FIRST GAME ALSO IF YOU FAIL TOO HARD THEN OPA-OPA GOES EVIL AND SPACE HARRIER KILLS HIM!!1
