I think this is a problem with the way that a lot of social conservatives, especially Christian ones, frame their positions. They speak as if traditional gender norms are just necessary for society to function. Social liberals can easily retort (correctly) that material conditions in our societies have improved, so there are things that used to be necessary which are no longer necessary.Average Christian in 2021 everybody
It seems like the Greek/Roman conception of gender roles was more inspirational, rather than mundanely necessary. The great figures of our civilization and myths all conform to gendered roles. These roles give people an opportunity to rise above the mundane and petty and self-indulgent into something greater and more meaningful. I find that much more inspiring than a "cultural Christian" saying that boys should not wear pink in order for society to maintain a 2.1 birthrate or something like that.
